RICHARD (RICK) WAYNE HORWOODOffer Condolences or Memory
RICHARD (RICK) WAYNE HORWOOD
He was predeceased by his mother Betty.
He leaves to mourn his passing his father Bob Horwood, his brother Rob (Sheila) Horwood, his sister Nancy (Wayne) Tardiff, his nieces, Christina, Courtney and Cheryl, nephew Ken, and five great-nieces and nephews, several cousins in Winnipeg, as well as numerous relatives in the United States and England.
Rick attended Charleswood Collegiate (Class of 1973) and University of Manitoba (BSc-Microbiology) (Class of 1977). He was an excellent student, always on the honour roll. Unfortunately, life took a terrible turn for Rick when he had numerous brain aneurysms at a very young age, which left him incapacitated. In spite of this, Rick never complained and always had a positive attitude. Rick moved into Luther Home in 1980.
He will be missed very much by staff and residents alike.
The family would like to thank Seven Oaks ICU staff, Health Sciences Centre MICU staff for the excellent care given to Rick. We would also like to thank all the staff and volunteers at Luther Home for their care, concern and love shown to Rick through the years and especially when he returned there for his last few days.
In accordance with Rick's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Luther Home, 1081 Andrews Street, Winnipeg, MB R2V 2G9.
"The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows where
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother"

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)
My brother Howard Porritt was a friend of Rick's while going to school at Dieppe and the Charleswood Collegiate. I remember the difficult days which lead to many tough years for the Horwood family when Rick suffered his debilitating aneurysms. Condolences from the Porritt family for the loss of Rick and Mrs. Betty Horwood who dedicated much of her life to her son Rick. May they be together in Heaven, free of pain and worry with God by their side. Trevor Porritt - Posted by: Porritt Family (Friend) on: May 09, 2019
I am so sorry to hear of Richard's passing. He had his struggles in life but with his family at his side he faced his challenges. My deepest sympathy to all the family for your loss. May you find comfort knowing that he lived his life being loved with family always at his side to help him in his journey. - Posted by: Christina Steinhilber( Herman's) (Friend of brother) on: May 02, 2019
Rick and I attended Dieppe School and Charleswood Collegiate together and were childhood friends. We attended each others' birthday parties and hung out after school and on holidays. He had a great sense of humour and really liked art, as well he had a talent for track and field, especially the high jump. The few photos I have of him show a happy young man full of life. That's how I will always remember him. - Posted by: Ken Kowalsky, Victoria, BC (Childhood friend) on: Apr 23, 2019
Sending condolences to Bob, Rob, Sheila, Nancy and all the family from all of us in the UK - Phyllis, Angela, Andrew & Girls. May your memories of happy times with Rick provide you with comfort. - Posted by: Angela Roberts (Cousin) on: Apr 22, 2019
Rick was my first friend in Charleswood in 1960. He was a year older so at school we drifted apart, but would often play all summer. I will always remember you my friend. My heart goes to Bob and Rob and Nancy. Mark - Posted by: Mark Petursson (Friend) on: Apr 20, 2019
