LUCIA ROSE MOTTOLA
(nee CANTAFIO)
January 15, 1922 - April 9, 2019
Born in Amato, Italy, Lucia immigrated to Canada at the age of three, where her family took up residence in Transcona, Manitoba. At the age of 16 she married the love of her life, Giovanni (John) Battista. Her support and pride in her husband's many achievements knew no bounds. As well as her commitment to her family, Lucia took on leadership in volunteer endeavours, such as the Women's Auxiliary of the Canadian Brotherhood of Railway Workers, and the Catholic Women's League.
Lucia was predeceased by her husband John; her parents, Frank and Ida Cantafio, her grandson Michael; her brothers, Sam, Tony and Peter Cantafio; sister-in-law Monica Cantafio; brother-in-law Bill Sayers; and sister-in-law Lucille Cantafio.
She is survived by her children, Carol Knox, Donald Mottola, Marilyn Mottola; and dearest daughter-in-law Sylvia Mottola; her grandchildren, John Mottola (Andrea), Bobby Mottola (Bernita), Jeff Mottola (Christa), Sebastian Knox (Bonnie), John Paul Knox, and Gabrielle Cameron (Steve); great-grandchildren, Charlie, August, Evren, Luca, Francis and Iver; the loving Sayers family - sister and friend Kay Sayers and Kay's children; brothers, Joe (Louise) and Till Cantafio; sister-in-law May; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
There are no words to describe Lucia's selfless devotion and care for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There was nothing she loved more than to be with them. Our beautiful Lucia was an inspiration to each of us of grace, gentleness, kindness, forgiveness and unconditional love.
The family would like to thank Dr. Johann Raubenheimer, and the caring staff of Riverview Medical Centre.
Funeral Mass will be held April 23, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue. Private entombment to follow.
Pallbearers will be John Mottola, Bobby Mottola, Jeffrey Mottola, John-Paul Knox, Paul Cantafio, and Gordon Sayers.
At her family's request, donations in lieu of flowers to be made in Lucia's honour to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.
