PERCY WILLIAM FORBES
May 8, 1926 - April 19, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Percy just weeks before his 93rd birthday.
Percy is survived, and lovingly remembered by, his children: Donna Schmidt (Arnold) and Marie Gregorashuk (Ron); stepchildren: Vivian Sandberg (John) and Larry Myhal (Judy); as well as his grandchildren: Lisa, Ryan, Jamie, Scott, Cory and Eric and their families. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Rose Forbes.
Percy worked hard for many years at Winnipeg Supply/Building Products delivering coal, fuel oil and cement. He spent 50 plus years enjoying his cottage at Big Whiteshell Lake with friends and family and then vegetable gardening at home the last few years.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Victoria Hospital and Grace Hospital for their care and concern. And many thanks to Percy's good friends, Rob, Pat, Bud and Joy for their friendship and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your charity of choice.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

"His weary hours and days of pain
His troubled nights are past
And in our aching hearts we know
He has found sweet rest at last."

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • We were saddened to hear of Percy’s passing. It was always a pleasure to see Percy at the lake and stop by and share Lake stories as we walked down our shared path. He was a lovely neighbour and things always seemed right in the world when he was puttering around and enjoying his time at the lake. - Posted by: David and Margaret Lapenskie (Lake Neighbours) on: Apr 30, 2019

  • Uncle Percy, as we kids called him, worked with my dear Grandpa for years. Over the years, Uncle Percy, Uncle Buddy and later on, Larry, had my dad do their taxes. He never wanted anything for it, so the guys would load up on goodies for myself and my sister and brother instead. We loved those guys. I remember they'd visit my Grandpa and they would be sitting outside, having a few beers, and we kids would take turns 'bartending'. They gave great tips! Uncle Buddy passed a few years ago, and now Uncle Percy. Another piece of my childhood is gone. Rest well, Uncle Percy, and say 'hi' to my Grandpa for me. - Posted by: Debbie Hunter (Worked with my Grandpa White at Winnipeg Supply) on: Apr 26, 2019

  • Just a short note to let you know how sorry I am to hear about your Dad's passing. You, Ron and your family took such wonderful care of him, you know he knew he was well loved and passed in peace. - Posted by: Lynn McGregor (Friend) on: Apr 24, 2019

  • So sorry to hear of the passing of Percy who was our neighbour for many, many years at the Big Whiteshell. We loved stopping by to say "hi" to Percy who was always happy to see us and greeted us with a big smile! He was a kind, gentle, thoughtful person and my parents enjoyed his company over the years as his next door cottage neighbour. On several occasions, we would arrive to the lake in the middle of a cold winter to find our driveway clear of snow thanks to Percy's considerate, helpful nature. One of our first snowmobile adventures in our younger years was an evening ride led by Percy through the Whiteshell forests to Lone Island. Today we are very avid snowmobilers and even though our cottage days are over, we often think of how Percy guided us to enjoy an adventure activity that we still pursue regularly through the Whiteshell. We will miss him and were so happy to get to know such a wonderful person. Condolences to the family from Kim and John and the Komher Family. - Posted by: Kim & John Sauder (Cottage Neighbour) on: Apr 24, 2019

  • Our most sincere condolences during this very sad time for the loss of your Dad. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with you. We were neighbors for many years in Fort Garry and I/we will always remember Percy very fondly. He was a wonderful true gentleman, and I can't thank you enough for all that he did to help out my/our Mom & Dad while they were neighbors. I'm sending condolences from my Mom & Dad from above as well as they absolutely loved your parents so much. Marian, Ray, Phil & Monique and families - Posted by: Marian Bourget Lewis (Neighbor/Friend) on: Apr 23, 2019

  • I was a fellow tenant at "Rotary Villa", I remember Percy having one of the best gardens and how proud he was of his Brussel Sprouts one year. Percy always had a kind disposition and always offered everything from his garden along with a smile. - Posted by: Denise (Fellow Tenant) on: Apr 23, 2019
