DAVID ISAAK

Born February 27, 1929 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, David was the son of Gerhard and Maria Isaak. He grew up among his eight siblings: Mary, John, George, Harry, Kathie, Peter, Rudy and Helen. Gerhard, Maria and their two eldest children were Mennonites of German background who had immigrated to Canada from the Molotschna colony in Russia (now Eastern Ukraine.)
David was educated at the universities of Manitoba (1958) and Toronto (1963) in liberal arts and library sciences. He worked as a teacher in Manitoba, as a librarian in Ottawa in the mid-1960s, and then at the University of Victoria for many years. After retirement in 1992, David lived in Saanich, Winnipeg and Oak Bay.
After marrying Heather (née Smith) in 1966 in Victoria, David's two sons, Matthew and Timothy, were born in the next few years. Marriage to his second wife, Judy, followed in 1980. David's family now extended to stepsons, Timothy and Michael Boultbee, and stepdaughter Terri Lee d'Aaran.
Maintaining his independence to the end, David died on April 26, 2019 at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria. Many thanks to the staff at the Royal Jubilee for their care.
David requested that his ashes be scattered along the shore of Gordon Head, in Saanich, joining Judy's there.
