RONALD DOUGLAS BAILEY

Ronald Douglas Bailey passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, May 5, 2019, after a brief illness.
Ron was born on January 18, 1930 at Kingston, Ontario, the youngest of six children of Evalena Filtz Bailey and Thomas Bailey. He spent his early years at Kingston, before joining the RCAF in 1951. While based at Trenton, Ontario, he met the love of his life, Laura Warner. Laura and Ron married on Valentine's Day, 1953. After leaving the Air Force in 1956, he studied Communications at Ryerson University, Toronto. His career took him and his family back to Kingston, then to Montreal and finally to Winnipeg. For several years he worked on the DEW Line in the Canadian Arctic. Ron was working for Communications Canada's Government Telecommunications Agency when he retired in 1993.
He was a lifelong sportsman, playing baseball and hockey in his younger years. For several years after retirement, he was also active with the Telephone Pioneers.
Ron was predeceased by his parents; his sister Phyllis; and brothers, Phillip, Thomas, Harold and Martin. He is survived by his beloved wife Laurie; son Ron (Heather Kerr); daughter Angela Busby (Jim); and grandsons, Neal Bailey and Kris Busby (Heather Reeves), of Winnipeg and Matt Busby, of Vancouver.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Intensive Care Unit at Grace Hospital and nurse Erin Friesen for their care and compassion. Special thanks also go to Pastor Michael Kurtz of First Lutheran Church, for being there when he was most needed.
Cremation has already taken place. A private family celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
