VINKO BASIC
Born in Sitnes, Croatia, and a skilled tool and die maker, Dad immigrated to Canada in 1956 and settled in Winnipeg where he met his wife of 59 years, Rose Marie.
Predeceased by his grandson Dylan, Vinko is survived by Rose Marie, his five children, Anthony (Merrilee), Cecilia (Michael), John (Wendy), Angie (Marvin) and Christina (Tony), along with his grandchildren, Alicia, Brandee, Christopher, Matthew, Brielle, Taylor and Danae, and great-grandchildren, Aspen and Jhene. He is also survived by two of his seven siblings, Milica (Vilko) of Switzerland and Tomislav (Dubravka) of Croatia, and numerous nieces and nephews in Europe, Australia and the United States.
Deeply committed to Croatia and Croatian culture, Dad was a very proud member of the Winnipeg Croatian community. He was involved in the building of St. Nicholas Tavelich Church, in the Croatian Folk Dance group, in the Folklorama Pavilion, and in the church's community pig roasts at the travnik.
Many thanks to Dr. M.B. Springman and the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for the exceptional care and comfort provided to Dad in his final hours.
Cremation has taken place at his request. Funeral arrangements are pending with Cropo Funeral Chapel on Main Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Boniface Hospital's Circle of Compassionate Care.
