SHIRLEY MAE BLUNDELL WOROBEY
1926 - 2019

Shirley Worobey passed peacefully in St. Boniface Hospital on Friday afternoon, May 17, 2019, 12 days before her 93rd birthday, with her son by her side.
Shirley was born in the Weston area of Winnipeg on May 29, 1926. She graduated from the Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing and received her RN in 1949. She loved her profession and worked in various fields of nursing in Winnipeg and Dauphin. She was a front line worker in the polio epidemic of the 1950s.
She married Lawrence (Larry) Worobey in 1955. He predeceased her in 1999.
She is survived by her two children, Dr. Valerie Jones (Lance) of Kelowna, BC and Larry Worobey Jr. (Yumei) of Winnipeg and one grandson Benjamin Worobey, now aged 13.
Shirley and her family lived in Montreal, Saskatoon, Dauphin and Winnipeg while Larry Sr. was employed with the CNR. The whole family enjoyed summers at their lake cottage in Laclu, Ontario from the time Shirley was born until 1995. After Larry Sr.'s retirement they also enjoyed some travelling.
Following Larry Sr.'s death in 1999, Shirley resided for many years in Dakota House where she made several friends. She then lived in Rosewood Cottages at the Waverley and made affectionate bonds there with staff members who provided her with nurturing comfort. Her last place of residence was River Park Gardens on St. Anne's Road and her children would like to thank the staff there for their diligent care.
A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. with viewing 45 minutes prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
