ETHEL KUSHNER
(nee ARLINSKY)
Ethel was born in the small Jewish settlement of Mac Rorie in Saskatchewan. She always said her life was like the book The Grapes of Wrath. She was a woman you could confide in. Ethel moved to Winnipeg and put herself through business college and met the love her life, Arthur Kushner. Ethel was married to Arthur for 45 wonderful years. Even when Arthur was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, Ethel was always by his side. Ethel worked at Cassidy's Ltd. for the next 12 years then transferred to Sysco for the next 30 years until retirement. Ethel also helped Arthur with his photo business, Paramount Photos, owned by Arthur Kushner and Barney Charach.
In 1983, the Brookers moved next door and the families instantly clicked. The family added a wonderful dimension to Arthur and Ethel's lives; many good times from births, birthdays, Bat Mitzvahs, and weddings as well as many sad times, which only made us grow stronger and closer. She has been the rock to our family for over 30 years and we are fortunate to have had them both in our lives.
Arthur went on his own, with Ethel at his side, running the wedding pictures and she will forever be known as Arthur's Tuffy!
Ethel is joining her parents, Morris Arlinsky, Sarah Beslwow-Arlinsky, Jeanette Arlinsky, Morris Arlinsky, Dr. Brian Brooker and many special friends in her life. After a short illness with colon cancer, she decided to take a new adventure and passed away on her own terms, surrounded by family.
Ethel leaves her chosen family, Lil Brooker (Marvin Shenkarow), Melanie and Michael Coodin, Samantha Brooker, Andrew Krichkowski and special boys, Hartley and Avery Coodin and Ben Krichkowski. She also is survived by Marie Arlins.
Ethel loved gardening and sharing. She would share with all the neighbours; too many to mention. She had many good friends. She will be missed.
Ethel was a believer in a healthy lifestyle.
From tennis, walking, swimming and a must bicycle ride; at least 20 miles a day on her exercise bike. Eating garlic was also a must.
We will miss you Ethel very much.
Love always from your chosen family.
