CONSTANTINE (TINO) ETHANS

Constantine (Tino) Ethans passed away peacefully at his home on May 22, 2019.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Daphne, and his children, Clancy (Andrea) and Karen (Patrick) as well as his cherished grandchildren, that he was so proud of - Turner, Chris, Caitlin, Emily, and Julia, and his loyal dog Theo. Tino was also very close to all of his nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by Jordan and Coula, Jordan Junior and "Uncle Dave".
He graduated from the University of Manitoba medical school and went on to specialize in anaesthesia, finishing his specialty training in San Francisco. Tino was instrumental in the development of the Department of Anaesthesia at the University of Manitoba and helped to pioneer day surgery at the Western Surgery Centre. He was often praised by his colleagues as a brilliant Anesthesiologist and a skilled clinician. He served on the board of MD Management, the Canadian Anaesthesia Council, and was committed to the development of the Manitoba Medical College Foundation. His passion for non-medical business ventures started with a small town newspaper business and his many real estate ventures. He was very proud of his Greek heritage and treasured his time at Lake of the Woods.

Grandaddy, T, Dad, Bear... you will be
missed and we will love you forever.

Tino was a strong advocate of education and helping students achieve their goals.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Dr. C. T. Ethans Memorial Scholarship Fund for Grade 12 science students from Gordon Bell High School in Winnipeg where he attended high school or to a charity of your choice. Please contact Melissa Baart at (204) 774-5401.

  • A great guy. Will surely be missed! - Posted by: Mary Butt (Friend) on: May 27, 2019

  • So sorry to hear of Tino's passing. I met Tino when I joined the anesthesia group at the Health Sciences in 1989. Lovely man, and I was so honoured to make his acquaintance. God bless his soul. Alastair - Posted by: Alastair Ewen (Colleague) on: May 26, 2019

  • Thank you, Tino and Daphne, for "adopting" me when I first arrived in Canada 1970. Both in the workplace and in "real" life you were the starter motor for me in my life and career in Manitoba The battles, Tino, that we had on the squash court (thank you for letting me win occasionally), and the shared team efforts we experienced in the operating rooms, never to be forgotten, as well as a host of other experiences. You will be remembered with the most cherished of thoughts forever. Daphne, Karen, Clancy- how proud I am to count you amongst my favourite people, and how much I know you will miss this fine man, your Husband and Dad. What a guy!!
