JUDITH (JUDY) DONNA FAIRBAIRN
August 16, 1957 - January 19, 2019
"She lived that dash very well."
Born in Winnipeg, Judy grew up surrounded by many friends in the suburb of Transcona, where she went to high school and attended Red River Community College. Her days in Manitoba included many enjoyable family daytrips to Kildonan Park, Oasis, and Lockport, as well as vacations to Grand Beach, site of several notoriously fun-filled partying episodes with "The Girls." Judy relocated to British Columbia's Sunshine Coast in 1981 with her then husband Craig Moore, working first as a real estate agent with Mitten Realty and later as an integral part of Community Futures in addition to enjoying the boundless love that came with being a devoted mother to her only child. Her new life saw Judy embraced by many more wonderful friends, as she immersed herself in the unique flavour of "The Coast," eventually evolving into both a regular walking partner for many and a well-respected and popular yoga instructor for many more. Whether swimming in the ocean, taking long freeing hikes or simply observing nature and sharing it with an excited curiosity, Judy greatly engaged with her Coastal surroundings and connected to it deeply, knowing the area had a great capacity for grounding her.
Remembered as a gentle soul - always considerate of others with never an unkind word - as much as for her infectious and robust room-filling laugh, Judy was pre-deceased by her father, Frank, in 2010 and is survived by her husband and caregiver of seven years, BJ, daughter Angela (Sam), mother Alice, sister Janet, brother Robert (Roger) and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins - scattered across Canada.
A celebration of Judy's life will happen Saturday, June 15, 1:30 p.m. at The Royal Canadian Legion/Transcona Branch 7, 117 Regent Ave. E., Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be considered for the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Totem Lodge in Sechelt for their kind and compassionate care in making Judy's final days as comfortable as possible.
