CHERYL MARIA FAITH SOBCZAK
December 20, 1949 May 24, 2019
She faced her battle with cancer with determination and bravery, and when treatment was no longer an option, to avoid languishing, she enlisted the help of MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying). She picked Friday, May 24, 2019, as her last day on earth. The room was full of laughter and tears, and a tremendous amount of love. When asked by the doctor if she was ready, she replied "Let's blow this pop stand!" As hard as it was for all of us to let her go, she went out on her terms; she did it her way. She passed quickly and peacefully and we know she no longer feels any pain.
Cheryl was born in Winnipeg to Philip and Gloria Hein. She is survived by her brother Jim. She fell in love with Sig, the love of her life, when she was just a teenager. Together they celebrated 49 years of marriage. Her three children, Dave, Angie and Sterling were the focus of her life. She always supported and encouraged each of their interests and passions. She was always willing to lend a hand, run a club, or chair an event. By being involved with all of these activities, she met some of her dearest and closest friends.
Cheryl was an avid reader and had many, many interests. In 1986, she took great pleasure and pride in moving into her beautiful family home which she designed and decorated. Along with her mother, Gloria, she enjoyed owning and breeding thoroughbred horses, her favourite being Yakaroo Miss. She also loved to travel. She visited England, Mexico, California, Florida, New York and Washington each many times. She has been across Canada from coast to coast, and more recently found great joy in taking her grandchildren camping. She was always searching for new adventures, new experiences and opportunities to learn and make memories.
Cheryl was a free spirit who always followed her own path. She did what she believed was right and had no problems sharing her opinions. She was smart, inclusive, kind, caring, fun and fun-loving. She was always up for a party and drink. She enjoyed everyone and had a genuine infectious quality, people loved being around her.
Cheryl had a strong work ethic and managed to raise a busy family while playing an integral part of running the family auto electric business. She worked at Ace Auto Electric for an astounding 54 years!
She was one of the most beautiful, strong and courageous people in the world. She will be deeply missed by her husband Sig Sobczak; her oldest son Dave Sobczak (Camille) and their children, Zarah and Marek; her daughter Angie Baseraba (Cory) and their children, Zander, Evan and Hayden; her youngest son Sterling Sobczak (Shana) and their children, Zoe, Gabriel and Charlotte. She also leaves behind extended family members, as well as many, many precious friends.
A mother's love is like a star,
it shines above both near and far.
A special thank you to her nurse practitioner Amanda Hopps, the CancerCare and Riverview Health Centre staff and the compassionate MAID team.
Flowers are gratefully declined.
The best measure of a life well lived
has less to do with the number of years
we live or by our accomplishments,
but more to do with how other's lives
were lovingly touched by our presence.
