GERALD FRANKLIN STOVEL
July 18, 1936 May 10, 2019
Predeceased by his parents, Everett and Harriet; brother Daniel; and sister-in-law Maureen. Gerry will be missed by his daughters, Janet Lee Merriman (Dave), Jeri-Lynn Osayande and Jennifer Harder (Daryl); and his three grandchildren, Justian and Jane Merriman, and Paige Robinson. Gerry is survived by his nephews, Stuart (daughter Lia) and Daniel (Debra); sister-in-law Ineke, and many cousins and family in Canada and the U.S.
Born in Winnipeg, Gerry was a descendant of the family that founded Stovel Company Ltd. in 1889. He spent half his life living in British Columbia - Parksville, Nanaimo, Victoria. In his later years he enjoyed being a Commissionaire with CFB Esquimalt - being 'on the rock' as he called it. With 45 plus years of sobriety, AA was a constant in Gerry's life - he enjoyed being a sponsor and helping others. Gerry was often found at a local corner bookstore in Nanaimo enjoying coffee and conversation with friends.
Arrangements have been made for cremation and a public ceremony will not be held.
Donations in Gerry's memory can be made to Beacon Hill Villa in Victoria, BC or a charity of your choice.
