ANTHONY (TONY) JOHN JEFFERS
June 13, 1961 - May 23, 2019

With profound sadness, we announce the tragic loss of our big brother Tony, at the age of 57 years.
Predeceased by parents, John Shields
Jeffers and Adeline Lily Ritchie.
He is survived by sisters, Shelley Jeffers Meger (Gord) and Trish Buhr (Michael), niece Jillian, nephews, Edison (Brittany) and Ian.
Friends, colleagues, and clients knew Tony as an extraordinary professional hunting and fishing guide in northern Manitoba and the NWT of Canada (Plummer's Arctic Lodges, Wolverine Lodge, and Lynn Lake fly-in Outpost Camps). As kids, early memories with "Ant" are of summers spent at Pinawa Bay learning to fish, make camp fires, canoe, and drive the speedboat. Tony would pack sandwiches and haul a sister into the boat at the crack of dawn to explore Coca-Cola Falls just minutes away - precious memories. He later graduated to more sophisticated trips, portaging with friends into the waterways of Booster Lake, Lac du Bonnet, and Rice Lake. Tony was an individual of exceptional
intelligence who at a young age chose to follow his passion for the outdoors to both teach and share his love of nature. Tony's clients, friends and international
acquaintances were likely all impacted by his knowledge in his field. He was able to enrich the lives of people of all ages with his expertise and guidance on their adventure holidays. We enjoyed any time we could spend with Tony when he was in the city. His tales told of the northern guiding seasons entertained our family and made us proud of him. His work was featured in outdoor magazines and tv productions. He couldn't wait to escape to the north each year and was quoted saying, "Light at the end of the tunnel, wilderness only a couple weeks away". Tony also had other passions, like his volunteer work for the Winnipeg Folk Festival,
following NHL hockey, sharing his thoughts with long distance friends online, and a love of food. He created masterpieces in his stews and casseroles and anything he could do to avoid the "processed food" industry. He was on a quest to perfect the "Shore Lunch" on the banks of the rivers and lakes of the remote north. So, who was Anthony John Jeffers? A man whose friends have referred to as a "Legend of the North". A man who gladly gave up warm summers to live in the northern climate. A man whose goal was to make friends, have fun, avoid conflict and make no enemies (goals achieved). A gentle, sweet, generous and lovable guy who will be loved, remembered and missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 13 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg.

Donations in Tony's memory can be made to the Manitoba Wildlife Federation

  • The sad loss and passing of our dear TONY JEFFERS Is sinking in deeper every day. I Will very much miss his distinctive voice, chubby sunburned cheeks and his laughter. IT Was all real from the heart. During the long days trolling for elusive LAKE trout Tony would continuously refresh his sun screen. By mid afternoon his face covered with a beard of gnats, caddis and traces of left over sunscreen was a sight to behold. BUT TONY still had a big smile, and could still carry good conversation. He could talk your socks off on any subject, remember names of long ago guests, their wife's name, and favorite sports team. Incredible memory! We always caught a "whack" of fish, his term for a good day, and always made it home through big waves and storms when other boats sought shelter and siwashed the night in the boat. Tony could see more with one eye, and appreciated it, than anybody. From past guest , be they doctors, lawyers, gynacologists, what ever I would be confident he could perform the required operation from his years of listening closely to their stories in the boat. Tony Jeffers was my friend year around not just fishing weeks at Bear. When we get to that heavenly fishing lodge in the sky, that guy with the chubby red bug encrusted face standing in front of the best shore lunch will be the first person I'll give a big bear hug to. See you then friend Tony, I miss you. Respectfully Yours Gene Johnson - Posted by: GENE JOHNSON (Friend and client guest 14 years at Great Bear Lake) on: Sep 13, 2019

  • Anthony's parents were friends with mine. We grew up in Transcona and cottaged in Lac du Bonnet. A couple of years older, I would occasionally watch over Anthony, Shelley and Trish while our parents went out. I have so many fond memories of all of them. They were amazing kids and all of them so smart. One of my favorites of Anthony is how he used to read books like Britannica Encyclopedias for fun when all other kids his age were reading comics. He was wise beyond his years and often in his good nature, would have me running circles and chuckling on the side line. He used to go into great detail explaining survival techniques in the wild and in retrospect, it amazes me how at such a young age, he knew he was meant for nature. Such an outdoors-man, I envision Anthony at great peace on a big lake filled with his favorite fish and rod. - Posted by: Cindy Kellendonk (Family friend) on: Jun 11, 2019

  • I had the great pleasure of spending a week with Tony as our fishing guide at Great Bear Lake. He made it a dream trip come true. I caught fish and enjoyed out-of-this world shore lunches and spending time with a most interesting individual. I will never forget my week with him. - Posted by: Al Pogge (Client) on: Jun 10, 2019

  • Extremely sad to hear of Tony's sudden passing. My condolences to all members of his family. The office, and our car rides to his bus stop the past 7 years filled my days with smiles and laughter. I will definitely miss hearing all the lodge stories of summer's past. I miss my friend! est in Peace Tony. - Posted by: Brenda Prins (Co-worker, Plummer's Winnipeg Head office) on: Jun 10, 2019

  • Fun Facts: Favorite birthday meal request-“Liver and Onions”. Had a subscription to “Mad” magazine. Caught sleep-walking in a coat closet, rummaging around, said”I gotta find that fishing lure”. Played “Monopoly” games with us into the wee hours at the cottage, until we all won equal times. Thanks for keeping us smiling Ant. Love you forever, Shell - Posted by: Shelley Jeffers (Sister) on: Jun 01, 2019
