May 16, 1935 - May 18, 2019

With heavy hearts, the family of Mona McDonald announce her passing on May 18, 2019, two days after her 84th birthday.
A loving mom to sons, Lee (Sharon) and Todd (Shume); and daughter Lisa (Hector) Munoz. An incredibly proud grandma to Rafael, Joshua, Tyler, Jessica, Seth and Grace. Mona was predeceased by her parents, William and Elsie McLean; and her husband of 50 years, Robert McDonald. Also mourning her passing is her brother Don McLean, his wife Shirley Penner and their family.
Mona was employed for 12 years at the Unemployment Insurance Commission and then stayed home to raise her family. She was later employed for 17 years at the Bay Distribution Center, retiring in 1992. Mona loved being with family and friends, her door was always open. She loved being at the lake, puttering with her flowers, going to her grandkid's sporting events, baking and feeding us. She especially enjoyed the many road trips that she and Bob took together and was always so full of gratitude for these simple pleasures.
Our mom was an incredibly strong woman and completely unselfish with her love and kindness. Her greatest joy was her family and she loved us dearly. When she was diagnosed with cancer in December, 2018, it was clear that she was not ready to go, there was too much she still wanted to do and was very worried about missing out on our lives. She bravely hung on for as long as she could.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Daeninck and Nurse Shawna at CancerCare and to the incredible staff of Riverview 3 East for the care and compassion provided to our mom.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation to CancerCare Manitoba or Riverview Health Center be made in Mona's memory.
A celebration of Mona's life was held on May 30, 2019, and we are grateful to those who were able to attend.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I was so upset when I heard Mona had passed away. Mona and Bob, were very special to me. Mona would write to me every Christmas and tell me about her family and grandchildren. I would write back and tell her about my family and daughter, Emma. When one Christmas she called and we talked for hours about everything and anything. We took turns calling, until 2017. When I didn't hear from her, I called her and there was no answer. I hoped and prayed she was okay, as I had no way of reaching her. When my friend Sandy, told me she passed away, I was devastated. My family just lost our dad on July 3rd to metastic cancer. Lee, Todd and Lisa, I'm so sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences to you and your family. Your mom was a beautiful person, inside and out. I will miss her. - Posted by: Arlene Stafford (Very dear friend) on: Jul 30, 2019

  • Very sorry to hear of Mona's passing. My brother Edwin Benjamin just read the obit in the newspaper yesterday, May 31. Had we known sooner, we would have attended the funeral. Our condolences to Don and to all the family. - Posted by: Eunice Neufeld (Cousin) on: Jun 01, 2019
