MARY THOMPSON
(nee HLADIJ - HALLIDAY - HLADY)
announces the passing of Mary Thompson of Marquette, Manitoba on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the age of 95 years, at the Portage la
Prairie Hospital.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Harry, her parents, William and Pearl Hlady, her brothers, Michael and Harry Halliday, and her sister Christine LaGrow.
Mary was born May 29, 1923 one of six
children, in West Kildonan, where she grew up and attended Victory School. In 1941, she met and married Harry Gordon Thompson. In their 35 years of marriage, they lived in
Winnipeg, then three years in Regina and back again to Winnipeg, and finally out to Marquette. Mary worked at a variety of
secretarial jobs through the years, her last job with the Western Canada Lottery
Corporation.
Mom loved to travel. Numerous trips out west to Vancouver and Victoria first with her husband, visiting family and friends along the way, proud of the fact that she later drove out by herself, sometimes even in the winter. The highlight of her travelling was a trip to
Morocco to visit her brother Norman. Mary loved the outdoors and enjoyed the camping and canoe trips she took with her brother
Edward, plus the years she spent with family out at "the cabin" on Bird River.
Mom leaves to mourn her children, sons, Tom (Linda) and Bill, and daughter Hazel
Rogers (Don). Grandma T. leaves to mourn her granddaughters, Sherry (Darryll), T. Nicole (Cameron), grandsons, Bob (Adele), Jeff, Wade and Doug (Susan), great-grandchildren, Hunter, Jane and Alex,
Jordan, Jeremy, Molly and Cole, Logan and Kyle, Samantha, Trinity and Aurora. Mary also leaves to mourn her companion Arthur Lilyholm. She is also survived by her
brothers, Norman Halliday, Edward Hlady (Margaret), niece Jennifer (Jamieson),
nephew Michael Hlady (Tiffany), and great-nephew Arek, plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff on the 3rd floor south ward at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg for all their kindness. Also a special thank you to the medical unit staff at the
Portage la Prairie Hospital for all their care and compassion given to Mary during her
final days.
In keeping with moms' wishes, no service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

I am sorry to hear of Aunt Mary's passing. She would visit us when she drove out west. I am Harry’s granddaughter. I loved her feisty personality. - Posted by: Tracey Halliday (Great-niece) on: Jun 14, 2019
