ELSIE FERLEY
Elsie maintained her walking ability to the last month of her life when she suffered a stroke. Thank you to the Grace Hospital for the wonderful care during this time.
Elsie was an independent woman born in a time when women had less independence.
Elsie was one of eight children of the Ferley / Thomas family. She was the last remaining sibling.
She worked her whole life in clerical positions with time at United Garments. After a brief time of living in British Columbia, she chose Winnipeg as her home, being born in Grand Marais, MB.
Elsie was a "minimalist" and chose to live life simply. Upon retiring she chose to live in a rooming house in the Spence neighbourhood, close to The Bay where she took her meals.
She was known and recognized as the quiet, polite lady in the hat that took time to clean litter on her street daily as she walked to and from the downtown.
The words "go placidly among the noise and haste" characterized Elsie. She loved solitude, never owning a TV or a phone.
Elsie believed in sparse eating and walking for good health.
In her memory, donations may be made to The Winnipeg Foundation, Spence Neighbourhood Fund.
Interment will be June 8, 2019 in Burnaby, BC in the family plot at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Elsie is survived by her niece Shelley Ewing and nephews, Doug, Rick, Dale and Dean Thomas.
