CLEONE CARRIE CROUCH
"NANA"

Cleone Carrie Crouch, "Nana", (nee Recksiedler), passed away February 20, 2019, at the age of 88.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Gail (Dave Garrett), Kevin (Lynn), Blaine, Grant (Aprille) and Brenda (Pat McNulty); grandchildren Melanie (Steven), Steven (Lindsay), Keith (Emma), Karyn (Pierre), Heather, Tami (Pieter) and Holly; great-grandchildren Topanga, Myra, Samuel, Andre, Walker, Simon and Emily. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, David; parents, Helena and Ludwig Recksiedler; and siblings Ruth, Laura, Harold and Aster.
The name Cleone has many meanings, but one that best describes her is "glorious". Mom/Nana lived a glorious life full of love and memories that will always be cherished. Born May 14, 1930, she was the youngest of five children. At a young age she realized her love of singing and music and, through formal training and several radio appearances, became an accomplished singer. In 1948, while singing at her sister's wedding, she found the love of her life - David. Two years later, during the great 1950 flood, they married prior to being evacuated from Winnipeg. Three years later they started their family. While Dad worked tirelessly for the CPR, Mom raised their five children. When he retired in 1986 they went on their dream trip to Australia and when they returned they moved to Ingolf, ON, for the next 20 years. While at the lake they enjoyed their life together and always welcomed visits from friends and family, especially with grandchildren. Nana enjoyed her crosswords and jigsaw puzzles. She was also very skilled at knitting and embroidering and gave her family members many gifts that they continue to cherish.
If desired, donations can be made in Cleone's memory to Darcy's Arc, Winnipeg Humane Society or Siloam Mission.
Celebration of Life will be held June 15, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, with reception to follow.
As a final request, our mother and Nana would like her life to be a celebration of colour with colourful casual attire to be worn.

A good life is a
collection of happy moments.
Thank you for being a
special part of our collections.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • The mention of Ms. Crouch having been a singer in Winnipeg caught my attention, and I went looking online today. In case her family doesn't have it, there is an article about an Operetta which mentions her. (Cleone Recksiedler) I haven't read it - bit it's there in the upper left of the page! The Winnipeg Tribune, May 16, 1947 Page 9 Good memories to you all. - Posted by: Linda Strange (Former singer in Winnipeg.) on: Jun 08, 2019
