July 1, 1932 - June 9, 2019

Elinor Urquhart was one of the kindest people who ever walked the earth. Peacefully, she passed away in the morning of June 9, 2019, at the Charleswood Long Term Care Home, at the age of 86.
Deeply saddened by her loss are her children, Ruth (Murray), John (Eve), Robert (Pam), Julie (Daren), David (Kari) and Peter (Cindy), her grandchildren, Christopher, Michelle, Jordon, Jacqueline, Nicola, Thomas and Ivan, and her great-grandchildren, Konner, Molly and Emily.
The eldest of seven kids, she older-sistered our aunts and uncles, Tom, Gord, Art, Marjorie, June and Nancy. Born in Windsor, Ontario, but raised on Pearl Street in Hamilton, she attended Westdale High School and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Hamilton General Hospital in 1955.
That same year, she married the love of her life Jerrold (Jerry) Urquhart who predeceased her this January.
A whirlwind followed. They lived in Ottawa, France, Belgium and Prince Edward Island before settling in Winnipeg in 1966, accumulating five kids on the way, with another added later.
Besides raising this brood, Mom worked at the Intermediate Care Nursery at the Health Sciences Centre, a job she, despite the shift-work, loved. She thought every single one of those premature babies was beautiful.
Mom was, whenever possible, in the yard gardening. And if not there, baking. In her later years, she enjoyed volunteering at Agape Table and spending winters in Florida. She was, since it opened, an active member of the St. Chad's Anglican congregation.
Mom, the pie is not too sweet. Or too tart. It was always just right.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private memorial will take place at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I worked with Eleanor in the nursery many years ago. Eleanor was a good mentor and teacher to so many of us as we began our nursing careers. My thoughts are with you as you mourn your Mom and Grandma. - Posted by: Margaret Mitchell (Co-worker) on: Jul 08, 2019

  • Eleanor and her late husband, Jerry, were staunch members of St. Chad's Parish, and were friends with everyone they met. Eleanor was very active in the Parish and I, and all St. Chadian's, will surely miss them. May she Rest in Peace, and Rise to Glory! - Posted by: Rev. Gordon Shields (Former Parish Priest at St. Chad's) on: Jun 15, 2019
