It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Maria Luz "Luchie" Aggabao Buan.
Luchie's memory will be cherished by her faithful husband, Severino "Jerry"; siblings, Toni (Akira), Lulu (Glenn), Toto (Janet); nieces and nephews, Dang, Mao, Red, Hiro, Tomo, Gabo; and many friends whose lives she touched with her guiding spirit and generosity.
Luchie was born on April 11, 1958 in Bacolod City, Philippines to Ma. Luz Gustilo and Agaton Aggabao. She spent part of her childhood in the joyful company of family and close relatives in Bacolod, and then moved to Manila where she graduated Cum Laude from the Philippine School of Business Administration.
In 1994, Luchie moved to Winnipeg following her then-fiancé, Severino. Despite the distance, Luchie was diligent in maintaining relationships with family in the Philippines.
In her professional life, Luchie was a meticulous accountant and she stepped into various leadership positions throughout her career. She was an active member of St. Mary's Cathedral where she participated in many activities and committees.
Luchie battled illness for over 25 years. She was unshakeable throughout it all. Even on the worst days, she suffered her ailments fearlessly. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of St. Boniface Hospital, particularly, the members of the dialysis unit who took care of Luchie's hemodialysis for many years.
A memorial service was held Thursday, June 13, 10:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home with the Very Reverend Geoffrey Angeles officiating. A celebration of her life will take place in the Philippines at a future date.
If friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Maria "Luchie" Buan to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation at
