OLIVE FORTIER (GARIEPY)
Born: May 08, 1934
Date of Passing: Jun 15, 2019Offer Condolences or Memory
Olive was born in St. Jean Baptiste, Manitoba on May 8, 1934.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Denis; her parents, Albert and Yvonne (nee Lafond) Gariepy; brothers, Leo, Denis and Fern; sisters, Therese, Leola, and Noella. She leaves to mourn: her sons, Ron (Sheila) and their children, Ricky (Krissy) and Jeff; Brian (Lucille) and his children, Nicole and Blake and stepson Joseph; daughter Donna McNulty (Shaun) and their children, Taylor and Mike. Olive also leaves to mourn her brother Rev. Father Gilbert Gariepy who will miss her dearly.
Mom was a gentle soul, of quiet faith and had a great sense of humour. She grew up in St. Jean Baptiste and upon graduation, taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Ste. Elizabeth, Manitoba. She married the handsome Denis Fortier where she moved to the farm in Letellier, Manitoba and enjoyed tending to her large garden and raising her children. She later taught school for several years in St. Joseph, Manitoba. In 1973, they sold the family farm and moved to Winnipeg where she worked as a Mortgage Officer for the National Bank for 20 years until her retirement in 1994. She loved her career and we remember her sense for immaculate business attire.
Mom and Dad had many friends and in their younger years spent hours enjoying time at the Club LaVerendrye , having coffee at Tims, and spending winter holidays with friends down south in Mesa, Arizona.
The family extends our appreciation for the excellent care provided by Leigh Anne, the Care Managers, and the Tenant Companions at Residence Despins. We also want to express our gratitude to Dr. Gougeon who cared for Mom in her later years.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home & Cemetery, 1 Green Acres Lane (Springfield R.M.) with Father Gilbert Gariepy presiding. Interment will be held in Green Acres Cemetery following the reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

I remember working with Olive at the National Bank downtown, (Portage and Main) in the early ‘80s. I was just in my very early 20s. We had a connection because we were both from small town, rural southern Manitoba and spoke French! She took me under her wing, showed me the ‘ropes’ and was a very classy lady! I remember her with jet black hair and she always looked beautiful! Condolences to the family on the loss of your mom... may she Rest In Peace... - Posted by: Lucie Gosselin (Co-worker) on: Jun 23, 2019
