Born in Muntau, Southern Russia in 1920, Betty arrived in Canada in 1924 with her parents, Abram and Elizabeth Loewen and older sister Katherine. Later, brother Victor came along. In her young adult years, before and after marriage, Betty taught in both rural Manitoba and Winnipeg. Education remained her passion throughout life.
Betty is survived by her son David, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and Donya. She was predeceased by her husband David, daughter Judy, sister Katherine Friesen and brother Victor.
Interment has taken place in Chapel Lawn Cemetery. A celebration of Betty's life will be held in Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 2:30 p.m.
Gratitude is due to the management and staff of Lindenwood Manor, and a large group of loving, in-home caregivers.
In her memory, instead of flowers, donations to Westgate Mennonite Collegiate Bursary Fund would be a fitting tribute to her lifelong support of education for young people, or to the "Rehab Medical Education Fund" within the Health Sciences Centre Foundation for spinal cord research.
