It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at the age of 68 years. Marilynn was a kind, loving, funny and out-going soul with a big smile and a knack for making everyone feel included.
She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of nearly 45 years, Art; daughters, Amanda (Colin) Schultz and Heather (Alex) Bilesky; sisters, Jackie (Don) Murphy and Elaine Cewick; niece Stephanie Murphy; nephew Bryce (Joyet) Murphy; great-nephew Kaiden Murphy; and many other family and friends. Marilynn was predeceased by her parents, Tony and France Cewick, her in-laws, Wally and Martha Schultz, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Marilynn was the middle daughter of Tony and France Cewick, born on June 15, 1951 in St. Claude, MB. After her birth, she and her family moved to the Brooklands area of Winnipeg, and later to Westin. After graduating from Tech Voc Vocational High School, Marilynn worked in the payroll department of Whitehall Laundry (Perth's), followed by the computer departments at Winnipeg General Hospital (Health Sciences Centre) and St. Boniface Hospital, starting in data entry and working her way up to computer programmer. On September 14, 1974, at 23 years of age, Marilynn married Art Schultz. After a year of marriage, the couple built their forever home in Oakbank, MB. In 1981, Marilynn left the St. Boniface Hospital to start a family. Marilynn stayed at home following the births of her two daughters, Amanda and Heather, until they were both in school. After two years of volunteering at Oakbank Elementary School, Marilynn secured a permanent position as an Educational Assistant and spent the next 20 years at a job she loved, primarily working with students with special needs. During this time, Marilynn also spent 10 years teaching Sunday school at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Cooks Creek, MB. After retirement, Marilynn kept busy with many social and volunteer activities, such as volunteering for the Oakbank United Church's annual dinner theatre production as a door greeter, serving on the executive and social committees of the Manitoba Classic and Antique Auto Club, golfing, curling, Zumba, daily walks, playing cards with the seniors at Kin Place in Oakbank, and recently taking dancing lessons with Art and other members of the Black Sheep car club. But above all, Marilynn cherished family. Whether it was time spent at home, at the family cottage on Black Sturgeon Lake in Ontario, or travelling, that is when Marilynn was the happiest. She loved playing cards and games with her kids and having get-togethers with extended family.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Marilynn's life will be held on Thursday, July 25 at the Dugald Community Club (544 Holland Street in Dugald, MB) from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
If so desired, donations can be made in Marilynn's name (don't forget the two "n's"!) to the Kin Place Independent Living Activity Fund by cheque payable to Oakbank-Springfield Kinsmen Seniors Complex Inc., 200-628 Main Street, Oakbank, MB R0E 1J1.
