NADINE ELISABETH NEMY
(PARKIN)
She is mourned by a large, extended family both in Canada and England. Nadine, widow of Morton and daughter of the late Frances and Jonathan (Jonty) Parkin, a Hall of Fame Rugby League player.
Nadine was born on December 24, 1930, in Wakefield, England and spent her childhood and teen years there. In the early 1950s she came to Winnipeg to teach physical education at the Manitoba Teachers College. In 1958, she married the love of her life, Morton Nemy, a prominent Winnipeg lawyer. They enjoyed nearly 50 years together filled with extensive travel, good times, the love of their three sons and many cherished memories. Throughout their marriage, travelling extensively was a passion they shared and enjoyed, meeting new people and making many lifelong friends in countries around the world.
Nadine, like her husband, was an avid golfer. In the 1980s, she became involved with the Manitoba Golf Association as a rules official for many tournaments, including the Manitoba Games. She was always very active at the Glendale Golf Club, winning championship titles in both tennis and golf. Up until Morton's passing in 2006, the two of them were enjoying winters in their home in Pompano Beach, Florida. Whether it was Florida or Winnipeg, Nadine loved to entertain family and friends for many special occasions, including hosting a wedding in her backyard, and many surprise parties for Morton and her children.
Nadine is survived by her sons, Garth, Robert and his wife Michelle, Wayne and his wife Lisa; eight grandchildren, Margaret, Zachary, Joshua, Connor, Alexandra, Adam, Daniel and David; one great-grandson Will. She is survived by three brothers, Bill, Neal and Trevor, and was predeceased by her sister Pat and her brother Geoff.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 28 at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Adam, Zachary, Daniel and David Nemy and William Houston.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the Simkin Centre, as well as her caring and compassionate caregivers, Karen-Anne Servando, Fely Grecia, Clemcia Alambra and a host of other wonderful women over the past 10 years. Also, a very special thank you to Alma Espino and Heide Alibango who were friends and caregivers for over 43 years to Nadine and the family.
