ROBERT ROSENTRETER

Peacefully, Robert passed away on July 3, 2019 at the age of 96.
Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Gisela in 2008 and his daughter Angela in 2005. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his sons, Edgar (Brenda), Gary (Marlene), Ben (Lee-Ann), Alan, Brian (Kim), and his daughter Ruth (Gino), 16 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers in Winnipeg, Henry (Val) and Alan, a sister in Edmonton, Selma, nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Dad lived a long life. He was born March 31, 1923 in a German village near Rovnow, Poland, to Daniel and Hulda Rosentreter. Dad's family immigrated to Canada in 1928. They arrived in Halifax and took the train to Winnipeg. From there, they settled in Minitonas, Manitoba.
Dad's family farmed in the Swan River Valley for many years. Dad met the love of his life (Gisela Zader) at McDermot Avenue Baptist Church in Winnipeg. They were married on November 14, 1952, and settled in Square Plains District. They lovingly raised their family on the farm and remained there until 1999, when they moved into Winnipeg.
Dad was a loyal husband, father and son. He loved fruit trees and gardening, and even in his later years was able to plant perfectly straight rows of anything you wanted. He always knew what the weather forecast was, definitely preferred a daily routine and could be a stubborn man. Although Dad only attended school until grade 8, he loved to read and had a thirst for knowledge; always quoting you facts and unusual tidbits. He also loved jokes and riddles. Dad was active, in his younger years competing in walkathons, enjoying walks with his wife and in his later years jumping on his bike and cycling from St. James to The Forks, Assiniboine Park, etc. And, when he could no longer ride his bike (at 90 years old!), he took his scooter, and along with some other Meadowood Tower residents, travelled the surrounding area! Oh yes, we cannot forget about the harmonica that he enjoyed playing!
A celebration of Dad's life will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Thank you to the staff of Meadowood Manor for their wonderful care of Dad.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
We love you and will miss you Dad/Opa; we are thankful that you are now at peace and with your beloved wife and daughter.

  • Heartfelt sympathies to all in Bob's family. Although there's always a sad void with the loss of a family member, yet our strength and hope lie in looking forward to a happy and lasting reunion one day in God's soon-coming Kingdom.
