LILLIAN (LIL) HELEN TODD
(nee POOLE)
April 7, 1924 – July 5, 2019

We mourn the peaceful passing of Lillian (Lil) Todd, aged 95, on July 5, 2019, in Winnipeg, as we also celebrate the fullness of her life so well and vibrantly lived and shared, and filled with fun.
Lil will be dearly missed by her children, Larry, Rick and Barb; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Kelly (Scott), Steven, Alana (Shawn), Todd (Mandy), Devon, David (Tiffanie); as well as great-grandchildren, Lily, Jackson, Kiana, Lachlan and Aila. She is survived by her sister Lorraine and brother Ken (Judy). Mom lost her beloved Gib in 1993, after 47 years of marriage.
Lil was also predeceased by dear daughter Janis; and precious great-granddaughter Rose; brothers, Laurence, Allan and Bob; and sisters, Edie, Dolly, Allison and Arlene.
Mom was born in Winnipeg to Robert and Emily Poole, the sixth child in a family of 10, growing up and schooling in Elmwood in what she described as a happy and hectic household always full of neighbourhood friends and music. As a young lady during the war, Mom did her part working at the Wartime Prices Board, and on weekends with friends and sisters would train it up to Clear Lake to attend dances with all those young Airmen in uniform.
Lil met Gib during the war while he was at home on leave from the Navy and they married in 1946. As Dad's career progressed, they successively lived in Fort Rouge, Transcona, Kenora, Ontario and latterly Fort Garry for many years.
Lil was a sports enthusiast. She'd recall as a kid how much fun she had with her father teaching her how to golf and play tennis. She was a standout track and field athlete in school. She'd have an impish grin of surprise when she'd skip a golf ball across a creek onto dry fairway beyond. She won a prestigious curling bonspiel while living in Kenora, and she curled for many years in ladies leagues at the Pembina Curling Club. She bowled in both the ladies and mixed leagues with friends and sisters for years.
Lil and Gib enjoyed travel to many locations in Canada, the U.S., Europe and Hawaii. After Dad passed, Mom took winter holidays with family at resorts in the Caribbean. The dessert buffet there was always her special target.
Lil and Gib's special place was their cottage on Shoal Lake, Ontario. She and Dad started building it in 1968 and grew it to become the epicentre of the family's fun times and lifelong memories. There they entertained many friends, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews on the water. As one of the many youthful visitors recalls "I always remember her singing in the kitchen".
Lil always looked amazing. Her pairing of colour coordinated earrings to her attire was her signature look that adorned her remarkably youthful appearance and persona. She was such fun at a party, either hosting her own or out with family and friends. She was a wonderful and extremely strong lady and much loved for how she stuck up for herself. And always made time to minister to family and friends in times of their illness or need. Lil was a wonderful and awesome lady.
Mom was very independent in her own home until her 90th birthday, when mild dementia made it necessary for her to move to supportive housing where in true fashion she valiantly sought to preserve her independence and self-determination.
Lil's family extends their sincere appreciation to Dr. Robyn Olson and Wendy for the excellent care given to this "tough ol' bird" over many decades. Also thanks to the staff of T3 Deer Lodge Centre for their compassionate care during Lil's last few months.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
To honour Lil's wishes, cremation has already taken place with interment next to Gib.
A celebration of Lil's life will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2019, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.

Goodbye for now Mom, "Love you lots."

May you have Heaven in your Heart
Starlight in your Soul
and Angels all around You.
