JAMES WALKER (JIM)
Date of Passing: Jul 13, 2019Offer Condolences or Memory
1927 - 2019
Left to mourn Jim is the "love of his life" of 69 years, his wife Gerry; his son Bill (Doris); daughter Sandra Fogg (Doug), Anne Walker (Daryl) and his grandchildren, Jeff (Kim), Lisa Lacroix (Clint), Brad (Jess), Sarah Craine (Mat) and his beloved great-grandchildren, Devlynn, Keaton and Maielle. He also leaves behind sisters, Winnie and Pauline; sisters-in-law, Helen and Clara, whom he lovingly called (Sis); as well as many nieces, nephews and a myriad of people young and old who enjoyed his company and looked to him for advice when it came to building projects, repairs or ideas. Jim was the "go to man".
Born in Winnipeg, Jim's early years were spent in Badger, Manitoba and Fort Rouge where he remained until moving to St. James in 1954. Jim worked for Winnipeg Paint and Glass and Dominion Bronze before joining the St. James-Assiniboia School Division where he remained until his retirement in 1992. Upon his retirement the family presented him with a set of golf clubs; thus began his long association with Assiniboine Golf Club.
Besides his enjoyment of golf, Jim had another passion - building and carving. He spent many hours in his workshop making wooden toys and furniture for his family and friends. Another source of enjoyment was travelling. Jim and Gerry made several trips to Mesa, Arizona with lifelong friends, Shirley and Harold Foster. They enjoyed cruises and a once-in-a-lifetime vacation to New Zealand and Australia.
A memorial service will be held for Jim on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice.

I am so sorry for your loss. I just heard that his morning Mark messaged me. I am sorry that I didn't know sooner. Jim was always so nice to me when I came to Winnipeg. - Posted by: David Phillips (Friend ) on: Jul 22, 2019

Rest in Peace Uncle Jim. You will be missed by all you family. You were the "Fine wood working guy". I have that big round tray still hanging on the wall. You will have a lot of company up there. Your big brother, Ernie (My Dad), my Mom Maida, older in line brother, Uncle George, newly departed Auntie Madge (Last month) and Uncle Stan. Uncle Jim and Uncle Roy too. As well as Tim and Tye. Lots to catch up on. Better start adding rooms on your heavenly home for all the family, until then rest well. Love Teri. - Posted by: Teri Walker (Niece) on: Jul 16, 2019
We have know Jim through his daughter, our sister-in-law, for a great many years. We always enjoyed seeing him when he visited Edmonton. We also especially admired him for his woodworking skills. So sorry that he has left this world. - Posted by: Terry Gibson & Janis Gibson (Friends) on: Jul 16, 2019
