SALVATORE MELIZZA (SAM)
Date of Passing: Jul 14, 2019Offer Condolences or Memory
Salvatore "Sam" was born in Mozzagrogna, Abruzzo, Italy, first born son to Carmine and Annina. As a young man he served in the military, but only after marrying Mom in 1952. Upon his return they welcomed a son, Carmine, in 1955 and a daughter, Anna Lucia, in 1958. In 1961 he immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. After two years of hard work he sponsored our family to Canada. Dad worked diligently to provide for our family, for many years at Greb Shoes and later with Willmar Windows until his retirement. He was a faithful member of Holy Rosary Parish and always ready to help his family, friends and community. Dad's energetic yet congenial mannerisms were evident right through his five plus years at West Park Manor. Our heartfelt thanks for the amazing and compassionate care he received there, and to all who visited him.
Left to cherish Sam's memory are his wife of 67 years, Giuseppina (Josie), daughter Lucy (Joseph), daughter-in-law Barbara, grandchildren, Mark (Nicky), Chrissy (Mark), Marlena (Ryan) and Lisa (Niall), great-grandchildren, Laura, Andrea, Aiden, Sadie and Eveleigh Josephine, his brother Marino (Antonietta), sister Elisa Martelli, and sister-in-law Santina. He was predeceased by his son Carmine (2018), brother Nicola, son-in-law Vince Bova, brother-in-law Guido Martelli and his parents Carmine and Annina.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., Friday, July 19, 2019 at 12:00 p.m., with condolences at 11:00 a.m., Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding. Entombment at Waverly Memorial Gardens to follow reception.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations to West Park Manor Personal Care Home, 3199 Grant Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3R 1X2, or Holy Rosary Parish, 510 River Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0E1.
