ROSALIE (ROSE) BURDETT
(nee MALCOLM)
April 1, 1933 - July 11, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great–grandmother peacefully at Eriksdale Personal Care Home on Thursday, July 11, 2019.
Left to treasure her memory are her
children, Mandy (Kris), Blake, Blair (Angie); grandchildren, Michael (Amanda), Kelli
(Danny), Jamie, Haley and Alex (Lexi); great-grandchildren, Claire, Lauren, Jake and
Jasper; daughter-in-law Lynn; brothers,
Howard and Robert (Ilene); sisters, Irene, Val, Judith (Jules) and Cora (Tony); brothers-in-law, Fred, Ken (Agatha) and sister-in-law Louise (Eddie).
Mom was predeceased by Dad (Jim);
parents, Donald and Polly; siblings, (spouses) Isabelle (Eric), Eva (Leifer), Vick (Dodo), Donny (Lara) and Trudy (Mindy); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gerry, Mickey, Ted, Joe (Fiola), Frank (Louise), Jack (Flo), Dave (Edna), Charlie (Pat), and Stan (Edna),
Francis (Dave), Helen and Audrey, George and Gladys; nieces and nephews, Larry, Lucky, Allen, Carol, Laura (Norm), Lenore, Vicki, Judy, Coni, Sonny, Gerald, Tom and Muzz.
Mom was born April 1, 1933 on the family farm west of Lundar. She attended Swan Creek School until she left home to go to work in Winnipeg. She married Dad on September 24, 1960 and moved back to Lundar where they built their home and raised the family.
Mom was never afraid of hard work or a bit of adventure. She worked at many jobs
during her life including Paulin Chambers making chocolate bars, the telephone
company as an operator, dress shop owner, mink rancher, G & E Cash store employee, house painter and a finally as a nurse's aide at the Lundar Personal Care Home.
Mom loved people and nothing was as
rewarding to her as a house full, musical
instruments and laughter. Family who visited knew there was always room at Rose and
Jim's and they had better stay there as not to hurt their feelings. Mom also loved gardening and spent many hours in her yard. People would often stop in off the highway to admire the beautiful flowers in her center garden. When they complimented her, she would
always say, "Oh, it's not that nice." She was always as humble as can be, though she had so many gifts and talents. Mom was very creative and artsy. She enjoyed building things and refinishing furniture, which she proudly displayed in her home. She also
enjoyed painting and created several art
pieces that we will cherish always. There wasn't anything she couldn't do if she put her mind to it.
Mom loved golf and curling but golf was her passion. She spent every available
moment on the Lundar Golf Course, which she took great pride in being a founding
member. She spent many years fundraising to build and maintain the course and served on the board for many years. It was one of her greatest joys to spend time on the course with her sisters, children and grandchildren. One of the highlights of her life was being able to play St. Andrews in Scotland while travelling there with her sisters.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Lundar Home Care staff, Gail Bindle, E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital Staff and Eriksdale Personal Care Home Staff for the excellent, compassionate care you gave Mom the last couple of years. Thank you to special friends, Ken and Betty Erickson and all the friends and family who took time to visit Mom. Your visits were the highlights of many long days.
A Celebration of Life is planned for
Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lundar Legion Hall with Cindy Thorkelson
officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinsons Society of Manitoba, 414 Westmount Dr., Winnipeg, MB R2J 1P2,
Canadian Diabetes Association, 200 - 310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 0S6 or the Lundar Golf Course, PO Box 603, Lundar, MB R0C 1Y0.
