THOMAS (TOM) MICHAEL
WILLIAM ELENDIUK
July 19, 1945 - July 14, 2019

With aching hearts, we announce Tom's passing Sunday, July 14, just days before his 74th birthday. Tom passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family. Tom was a much loved husband and father, devoted 'Papa', loving brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle and loyal friend.
Holding Tom's memory close in their hearts are his wife of 50+ years , Arlene; his treasured daughters, Lisa and Lara, much-adored granddaughters, Ava and Zoe, and sons–in-law, Peter and Ryan.
Deeply saddened by Tom's passing are his five sisters and one brother: Juanita (Telly), Dolores (Merv), Linda (Bruce), Donna, Bonnie (Doug) and Robert (Helena); sister-in law Vivian (Robert), brother-in-law Clyde (Pearl) and many wonderful nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Tom will be fondly remembered by Western Messenger staff/drivers both past and present, countless longtime friends, business associates and neighbours. We know that Tom will be smiling when his B & L Club buddies 'raise a glass' to toast their friend the next time they get together. Tom was a good man: kind, loving, smart, thoughtful, funny and generous to everyone.
In keeping with Tom's wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Cremation has taken place.
Our family will be forever grateful for the wonderful care Tom received from everyone at CancerCare and Palliative Care at St. Boniface Hospital. A very special thank you to the doctors, nurses and support staff who cared for Tom. You know who you are, and we thank you for your kindness and compassion. Flowers are gratefully declined.
Should friends wish to do so, a donation to: CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or Canadian Cancer Society - Manitoba Division (Wheels of Hope Transportation Service), 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 would be very meaningful and much appreciated.
We encourage family and friends to share thoughts, memories, stories, photos, etc. by visiting Tom's memorial page at: www.cropo.com

Our family chain is broken
and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.

Condolences & Memories (17 entries)

  • Tom, or “the Duke” as my sons remember him, was one of a kind. We were friends many years ago and had the most wonderful and memorable times being entertained at the home of Tom and Arlene....sometimes with all the kids in the pool, always around a great meal and great times because Tom and Arlene were the BEST hosts. Tom always had a smile, was always welcoming, kind and generous and yes, a little bit crazy too....his stories and jokes were monumental and I smile just thinking of him. My heart aches for you Arlene and your family...may you find comfort in the days ahead. Leni Hamm-Lousier - Posted by: Leni Lousier (Friend) on: Jul 26, 2019

  • We will miss his smile, his quick wit, the decades of story telling, his passion and zest for living life to the fullest. Our sincere condolences to you Arlene, Lisa and Laura - god bless and in the words of Abraham Lincoln "In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." • With deep sadness, Arlene and Family. Tom and I met in Grade 8 at Sisler High School and became lifelong friends as we fought our way through the tough north end school. Tom was known as one of the “Fighters” at Sisler and never backed away from a fight, and never lost one. Even though we lost touch for a number of years we were always friends and reunited in the early '90s when Tom had taken up golf. Many a good time was had with Tom at various golf tournaments where he always was remembered for showing everyone a good time! Tom wasn’t the best golfer but he sure left an impression on “Everyone”. Tom was “Tom”! Sorry to see you go Tom, I will miss you and will see you on the other side! Ernie Dolyniuk - Posted by: Ernie Dolyniuk (Friend) on: Jul 23, 2019

  • There will never be another Tom. He was truly one of a kind a great brother and a loving father and husband. Arlene I know you and Lisa, Peter and Ava, and Lara Ryan and Zoe will always love him. There are never the words to say how much we will all as his family miss him. - Posted by: Bonnie Elendiuk (Sister) on: Jul 23, 2019

  • Saddened to hear of Tom’s passing. We will miss Tom’s big smile, entertaining conversation and friendship. It was always a delight to run into Tom....always charming and mischievous. We always came away chuckling. Garth loved his many lunches with Tom and cherishes the many years of friendship. Tom was a good man living life to the fullest and definitely doing it to the beat of his own drum. He was filled with pride when he spoke of his beautiful wife and daughters. He loved his family. May all the happy and dare we say crazy memories, be of comfort to you, Arlene, Lara and Lisa and your families as you come to terms with the big void Tom’s passing has left in your hearts. • Growing up on Jessie Avenue with Tom and Arlene as neighbours and friends was almost idyllic. We had FUN and we watched each others' backs, like all good neighbours should. Tom always had a smile and a word of encouragement. His friendliness and generosity (letting friends and neighbours use their pool for many years, for example) was greatly appreciated. Prayers and blessings to Arlene and family. We will remember him. - Posted by: Jon Ted Wynne (Friend) on: Jul 20, 2019
