MICHAEL PAUL (ZED) ZYWINA
Date of passing: July 14, 2019

We announce with profound sadness that on July 14, 2019, Michael passed away after a brief illness.
Mourning his passing are his mother Lucille; his brothers, Cameron (Rafaela) and Geoffrey (Shannon); his nephews, Andrew and Gabriel; his nieces, Signe and Kate; his goddaughter Cristina; and his uncles, aunts and their families in Ontario and California. He was predeceased by his father, Dr. Paul Zywina.
Mike was born in Kingston, Ontario on March 4, 1959, raised in Windsor Park and later River Heights, in Winnipeg. He attended lower school at Maison-Chapelle and Tache schools, where he became fluent in French, and graduated from St. Paul's High School, where he made many lifelong friends. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (Anthropology), with a focus on an early passion of his, Archeology, at the University of Manitoba. Utilizing this education, he was able to experience the Yukon, Chihuahua (Mexico) and many other parts of North America on interesting digs. Later he worked with youth with physical, mental and developmental disabilities through various organizations where his gentle, calm and patient manner was well suited for this role. He was always very active and had a wide circle of friends through his involvement at Manitoba Pioneer Camp, St. Paul's High School and College, the Winnipeg Folk Festival, antique community, choral groups and social dinner club that he organized on a monthly basis.
Mike was an intelligent, thoughtful and sensitive soul who was always the first to celebrate family birthdays and anniversaries, never missing an opportunity for a phone call or visit to convey well wishes. His nephews and nieces cherish him for being friendly, caring, jolly and helpful. Mike's Christian faith was always important to him and it continued to deepen after he became an Elder at NextGen Worship Centre.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, July 31, at 1:00 p.m. at the NextGen Worship Centre, 1308 Chevrier Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael's memory to the St. Paul's College Foundation or the Inter-Varsity Pioneer Camp, Manitoba.

Be it a home, a love, a friend
Like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again."

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I haven't seen him since the Days of St Paul's High school. I wanted to be there today but couldn't make it. You sound like you had a very full life, my friend. It was over too soon. My condolences to your family. You will be missed. God Bless. - Posted by: stan bedernjak (Friend) on: Jul 31, 2019

  • He was always a gentle soul, a friend and a thinker. He would always cross the room or field or whatever it took just to say hello. He will be sadly missed by family, friends, everyone whose life he touched and the St. Paul's H.S. community. Rest well my friend. Gone far too young. - Posted by: Ken Swan (Friend since high school) on: Jul 30, 2019
