ALVIN HALL CARRUTHERS
Alvin is survived by daughter Heather; son Mark and sisters, Verna Boakes (Winnipeg) and Doreen Clark (Nelson, BC).
Alvin, the seventh of nine children, was born in Dauphin, MB on Christmas Eve, 1930, a lovely Christmas gift for parents, Florence and Walter Carruthers. Alvin spent his youth in Dauphin, but as a young adult moved to Winnipeg. Alvin obtained employment with the Manitoba Department of Corrections, and over the years held many positions, including Superintendent of Headingley Correctional Centre. Alvin retired in July, 1985.
Retirement brought a much more relaxed way of life. For many years, he and wife, Dorothy entertained their many friends and family at their summer home in Winnipeg Beach, MB and would then head south, spending winters in the warm sunshine of Mesa, Arizona. When declining health necessitated a move to Oakview Place Personal Care Home, Alvin remained interested in current events, and continued to be a huge professional sports fan, in particular, watching curling, hockey and baseball. Alvin will be remembered as a hard-working, fun-loving and kind man.
Alvin's family would like to acknowledge Extendicare Oakview Place, and thank them for their kindness, care and support.
The family has said goodbye to Alvin at a graveside gathering.
