MICHAEL EDWARD KNUDSEN
August 4, 1958 - May 16, 2019
In Penticton, BC, he will be lovingly remembered by his wife Darlene who shared in this overseas adventure for the past few years upon her retirement; son Andrew (Armanda); daughters Stephanie (Keith) and Emma; mother-in-law Pauline; sister-in-law Susan (Brian); brothers-in-law Brett and Craig (Sophie); as well as many cherished nieces; nephews; and dear friends. In Winnipeg, his parents, Don and Pat; his brothers Kerry (Kathy) and Chris (Janelle); nephews Kirk and Kole; niece Candace, husband Terry, children Shealyn and Jaxsen.
Although known as Michael to his parents and brothers, he was known as Mike everywhere else.
Upon graduating from Turfgrass Management at Fairview College in northern Alberta 34 years ago, he began his career in the golf course industry. He was an artist in his profession as a shaper. His canvas was the earth, his palette the green, his brush was the "dozer". He steadily worked his way up to Project Manager. He worked on numerous high end golf courses around the world, designed by leading, well known architects such as Nicklaus, Faldo, Norman and others. He was known for his integrity with particular fairness to all who worked for him. As a result of the thrill and challenge prsented by each new job and country, he enjoyed sharing many interesting stories.
Although he loved to travel, especially with Darlene, his favourite times by far were spent with family and friends playing golf, cooking for everyone, camping, hanging out at Shuswap Lake, playing board games and cards and cheering for the Canucks (especially when they played the Jets). These were the times that made up for all the time away from home.
He supported his kids in every way possible in all their endeavours, was their biggest booster and so proud of the people they had become. He loved getting together with his parents, brothers and their families in Winnipeg when the opportunity arose, which was never often enough and one of his few regrets.
He disliked formality, therefore there will be no memorial service. He would want everyone to play a round of golf with their favourite people and toast him with a beer on the 19th hole.

Auntie Pat and Uncle Don, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mike. We had a lot of memories when we were young and I will always cherish them. This year we have lost two many people. I will always remember him. - Posted by: Andy Erickson (cousin) on: Aug 04, 2019
