GORDON MCCLEAN SIMPSON
Gordon will be remembered forever by his wife Ida; son Matthew (Colleen); daughter Dana (Tom); grandchildren, Sydney (Chad), Madeleine, Scott, Ryan, Thomas; and great- grandchild Ben.
Gordon was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 10, 1928 to Clark and Olive. He grew up in Fort Rouge. Attended Kelvin High School as a gifted all around athlete in football, hockey and baseball. His career began as a defensemen in the MJHL with the Winnipeg Monarchs, then joined the Toronto Marlboros. After a brief season, he returned home to play with the Winnipeg Maroons for the next 14 years. In 1964 as head coach, the Maroons won the Allen cup. He retired after coaching Team Canada in 1965. Gordon was inducted to the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997.
Gordon went to become a credit manager of Supercrete.
Gordon was a generous, loving and caring man with a dry sense of humour who was loved by so many. A beloved husband who always put his family first and adored his grandchildren. Ida and Gord had been married for 71 years. I will love you forever.

I met Gordon and Ida through my folks, Dick and Marge Ayotte, and their friends Al and Nancy Sliger. Al & Nancy had a retirement home in Palm Springs, CA (USA), and Gordon and Ida would spend part of their winters in Palm Springs. My folks spent a few winter months in the same park with Al & Nancy, and consequently met Gordon & Ida there. I visited Palm Springs a few times while my folks were visiting, and I had the pleasure of meeting Gordon & Ida. What a fun couple! All of those retired couples, from the US and Canada, were so much fun to party with. The Sligers have passed on, Dick Ayotte passed in 2013, and my mother, Marge, passed in April 2022, age 96. I miss my folks, Al & Nancy, and I miss the great fun I had in the company of Gordon & Ida. - Posted by: Brian White (Acquantance, through my mother, Marge Ayotte, and her husband Dick.) on: Dec 18, 2022

Im lucky to have met him once or twice when I was really young. Although I dont remember much from back then, I always idolized him from the stories mom and Grand parents Florence and Perry Seymour would tell about Great Uncle Gord being so gifted at hockey and in life. Rest in peace Gord! - Posted by: Joel Roblin (Seymour) (Grand Nephew) on: Aug 12, 2019

As a child, I remember uncle Gordon being larger than life. He filled a room with energy and smiles everywhere he went. He was an awesome force of a man and a wonderful human being. The world is a lesser place without him. I miss you uncle Gordon. God bless.😔 Grant - Posted by: Grant Seymour (Nephew) on: Aug 10, 2019

Ida, Matt, Dana and family, I am so sorry for your loss of dear Gordon. He was such a wonderful man with a great sense of humour and never at a loss for words. I so enjoyed and very grateful for my visits with Ida and Gord in Kelowna. I am sure Mom and Dad and all the Grand Beach gang are enjoying his shenanigans once again. May your sadness be replaced with nothing but fond memories of a great man. - Posted by: Jane Hill (Family friend) on: Aug 06, 2019

Grandpa Gordie was “grandpa “ for our kids growing up in Riverview. Always caring, always encouraging and forever watching. We are sure that will never change. I will never forget Matt wearing Gord’s old helmet! - Posted by: Bigelows (Friends) on: Aug 05, 2019

Ida, Matt, Dana and all your families, we are thinking of all of you at this sad time. My memories of all of us in Winnipeg will last forever. Wish we lived closer and could be there with you. Uncle Gord was such an amazing man and will live on in our hearts. I'm sure Perry and Flo were there to greet Gord on July 11th. Sadly missed, never forgotten Love Robyn, Grant and family. - Posted by: Robyn Seymour (Niece) on: Aug 04, 2019

Dear Simpson Family, I am so very sorry to hear of your dear husband and father's passing. When I was a kid Mr. Simpson treated me with so much kindness and generosity. I remember long conversations with Mr. Simpson about important current events where he treated my childish views with the utmost respect. I am very grateful to have been welcomed into your happy home. Big love to all of you as you travel on with your love-filled memories of your loving family. - Posted by: Charlotte Duggan (family friend) on: Aug 04, 2019

Hi Ida. Joan and I are so sorry to hear of Gordie’s Passing. Lots of fun and good times at Grand Beach. I know I’ll never forget what great neighbours you were. Gordie’s sense of humour was the best and your infectious laugh and smile will be remembered. Joan and I spent our 50th anniversary at Grand Beach and walked past 42 and 44 4th Avenue and met the new owner (a relative I believe) of your cabin. All the best to you, Matt and Dana and the rest of your family Ida. - Posted by: Wally Monson (Friend) on: Aug 04, 2019
