NEIL CRAIG HOBSON
December 7, 1964 - July 29, 2019
Left to cherish his memory is his mother Edith and brother Mark, aunt Doreen Smith, uncle Ernest (Pat) Kempthorne, aunt Maurena Wear (partner Ross Svoboda), and extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his father Walter in 2014, grandparents, Art and Elva Hobson and Lorne and Marj Kempthorne, uncle Bill and aunt Lorraine Kempthorne, and uncle Murray Kempthorne.
Neil was born in Brandon on December 7, 1964. Two years later the family moved to Winnipeg so he could access programs for the deaf. Neil attended preschool for the hearing impaired from what is now called the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities, and Mulvey, Gordon Bell, and Tec Voc schools. He trained to be a dental technician and worked at several labs before losing his vision at the age of 40. Neil moved to the Deaf Centre of Manitoba not long after. He became an advocate for the deaf-blind, and was a past Co-Chair of the Manitoba Deaf-Blind Association and current Treasurer.
Neil was a passionate man with a gentle soul and endearing smile. Despite struggling with serious health issues for most of his adulthood, he was able to live an independent and active life. He loved the Jets, the Wheat Kings, the Goldeyes and the Bombers and attended their games as often as he could. He also loved music and attended many concerts. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and his friends, who will miss him deeply.
The family would like to thank the friends and staff at ECCOE, the Resource Centre for Manitobans who are Deaf-Blind (RCMDB), and the HSC Dialysis Unit for all their care and devotion throughout the years. We also wish to thank the attending police, firefighters and paramedics, with special thanks to Nicholas.
We will celebrate Neil's life at a service to be held at Prairie Spirit United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, on Saturday, August 17, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Neil's memory to RCMDB (228-285 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2E1), or a charity of your choice.

Sympathies and condolences to Neil's family. As Neil's Chiropractor, I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Neil has seen me for the past 17 years and I fondly remember our many conversations about baseball, in particular the Boston Red Sox. Neil will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Mark Kowalczuk (Chiropractor) on: Sep 05, 2019
