ROY SOLINGER
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Eileen, his son John and granddaughter Susan and many brothers and sisters. He will be lovingly missed by daughter Marilyne (Ron); son Roy (Colleen) grandchildren, Adam, Amber (Joe) and Ted, five great-grandchildren and another soon to arrive, who he was so excited to meet as well as family in Hastings, England.
Dad was born in Star City, SK on May 31, 1921. While serving overseas during the Second World War, he met the love of his life in England and moved to Canada with his family in 1954 and after living in many military bases, he and his family settled in Winnipeg. After 30 years of military service and 10 years of civil service with the DND, Dad decided it was time to enjoy the finer things in life. Dad enjoyed many years of golf (including a hole in one), bowling, slow-pitch, darts, curling, gardening and a good game of cards. There was nothing more than Dad enjoyed than sitting outside in the summer with a cold beer and a nice cigar. Dad was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion as well a devoted blood donor.
In keeping with Dad's wishes, there will be no formal service. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, on Thursday, August 8 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Just like Dad would have liked, please join us in colourful, casual clothing for a light snack to celebrate his life!
We would like to extend our appreciation to the staff of Deer Lodge Centre, Tower 6, for making Dad's stay as warm and homelike as possible.
If friends so desire to honour his memory, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
We know that Dad is at peace now with Mum. The best things in life are the people we love, the places we've been and the memories made along the way. We love you!

I'm so sorry to hear of Roy's passing. I met Roy approximately 16-17 years ago when I first started dating his grandson Ted. I took to Roy immediately because he had a unique spark that drew me to him. I remember him telling me back then, that he was still playing baseball and that he was the runner for the old guys, lol. I don't know why that stuck with me, but it makes me chuckle to this day. Roy was truly one of a kind, and I'm really going to miss him. Sending love and hugs to his family. My thoughts are with you all during this very difficult time. XOXOXO - Posted by: Jackie Kielly (Friend) on: Aug 07, 2019

I met Roy through curling at West Kildonan. Roy was one of the most consistent volunteers I have had the pleasure to work with, we served on a few committee's together. His input was always welcome and timely. He was a pretty darn good curler as well. Roy was not to be rushed, had a nice but firm way of expressing himself, and was always the gentleman. He always greeted me with a firm handshake and a big grin ! Rest in Peace Roy !! - Posted by: Bob Crawley (Acquaintance) on: Aug 04, 2019
