ALBERT E. HARTWIG

On July 23, 2019 with his family at his side, Albert took his celestial sleep to be with God.
Albert's life is one you only hear about in movies. His love of aviation, travel, family and innovation allowed him a life full of adventure. He worked until his retirement from Metropolitan Properties overseeing the maintenance of the CAF Base in Winnipeg. Always being a man of vision, he had several businesses, all in the aviation field; small seaplane rides in Three Lakes, Wisconsin, charter flights throughout North America, procurement of specialty planes for South American customers, a fishing lodge in northern Manitoba (God's Lake Elk Island Lodge), Hartwig Aircraft Fuel Cell Repair and Monarch Caps. A renaissance man with knowledge of everything mechanical and electrical, there wasn't much he couldn't fix or create. Always working on something needing repair, you could always find him in the airplane hangar, garage or shop getting his hands dirty.
Albert was proceeded by his mother Mary; father Albert; brother Max (Jane); nephew Mike and nieces Elsa and Gladys.
He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Del; sons, Albert (Salonee) and Erich (Sheri); daughters, Karla (Kevin) and Colleen (Allen); 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; brother Carl (Nancy) and extended family from Rhinelander and Eagle River, Wisconsin.
Thank you to all the family and friends who came to support our family and Albert over the years. Your love has been invaluable to him and the Hartwig family. Thank you to Kevin Sweryd and Bardal Funeral Home for the caring assistance during this difficult time.
A celebration of Albert's life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. A private family committal will take place a later date.
