John is survived by his wife Chris of 40 years; son Andrew; daughters, Jennie, and Amy (Andrew); much loved grandson Iggy; sisters, Elizabeth (Lorne), Marnie (Barry); brother Reg (Maggie); along with many nieces and nephews. Barry, Judie, Chuck (Wendy), and good friends Heather, Glen, Joannie, and Sinc will miss "The Big Guy".
He was predeceased by his father Bob; mother Marg; and sister-in-law Kathy.
John loved to golf with his friends and family, sing around the campfire at the trailer, play his guitar, and build his model railroad.
At his request, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held in his hometown of Peterborough, where he will be laid to rest with his Mom and Dad.
John's family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Coyle for his many years of care and support for John. Thank you to the doctors and nurses in both Emergency and ICU at the Grace Hospital for their care and compassion in his final days.

Always well versed and joyful to talk with... regular talks and discussions with John were always interesting. John never had an unkind word for anyone. My thoughts are with you Chris, Jennie, Amy, Andrew and Iggy! You will be missed John, Your brother Reg - Posted by: Reg Dyer (Brother) on: Aug 26, 2019

I miss my daily phone call from my brother John. We talked about his passions: golf, music, politics and family. John was an avid reader and shared his learnings willingly. One always knew where John stood on a particular issue as he was articulate and open with his knowledge. When we were much younger, I loved hearing John’s laugh when watching his favourite comedian Johnathon Winter. I know John’s end of life was filled with pain and suffering. I hope that peace is with him in eternity. May peace embrace my sister-in-law Chris, nephew Andrew and nieces Jenny and Amy as they grieve the loss of John; beloved husband, father, grandfather and my eldest brother. Chris, Our deepest condolences to you, Andrew, Jennie, Amy and her family, and to all the Dyer family for the loss of John. We will remember his quick wit and his hearty laugh from our many get-togethers and rounds of golf all those years ago. The "Sinker" will miss "John Boy" and the good times they had at the "C". God Bless. Love Joanie and Sinclair. - Posted by: Joan and Sinclair Tyios (friends) on: Aug 04, 2019

Chris, Jennifer, Andrew and Amy, so sorry to hear about John’s passing. I will remember John as someone with a great sense of humour who loved his children and his dog Dillon. Please accept my deepest condolences and know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers over the next while as you adjust to your loss. Take care, Maureen - Posted by: Maureen Jackson (Friend) on: Aug 03, 2019

John and I spent many hours listening to his really good music collection and talking about the lives of his favourite artists. We'd sing along sometimes but usually just mellowed out and enjoyed the moments. He also sang a version of Happy Birthday to my daughter (his niece) Sandi on her sixteenth birthday that made her feel very special indeed. He will be missed and will be honoured for the good that he was able to pass on in his life, also for the love he was able to give and to receive. Much love to Chris, Andrew, and Jennie, in Winnipeg and Amy ( Andrew) and Iggy in Nova Scotia and to all John's family in Peterborough. - Posted by: Judie Cooper (Sister-in-Law) on: Aug 03, 2019
