EVELYN ANN OLSON
August 27, 1942 - July 31, 2019

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving Mother, Grandmother and Sister, Evelyn Olson, on July 31, 2019.
Evelyn is survived by her son Darcy (Diane), companion Garry, grandsons, Nolan and Jason, brother Ed Teplyski (Arlene), sisters, Jean Kamke and Mary MacLeod, sisters-in-law, Roseann Farmer, Delores Olson and Shirley Harris, close lifelong friends, Marylyn Harasymchuk, John and Joyce Persowich and Maurice and Linda Sobry as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Lennard, son Leslie, parents, John and Mary Teplyski, brother Dan Teplyski, brothers-in-law, Gus Kamke, Archie MacLeod, George Olson, Darrel Harris and John Babitzke, sisters-in-law, Judy Teplyski and Jean Babitzke, lifelong friends, Mitch Harasymchuk and Len Shumski.
Evelyn was born in Libau, Manitoba on August 27, 1942. She went to school in East Selkirk (high school in Selkirk) from 1949 to 1960. She went on to take a business machine course at M.I.T. (now known as Red River College) from 1962 to 1963. She worked at various jobs in Winnipeg until she wanted an adventure and left for Montreal, Quebec in the mid-1960s to work there for a year until her dad became ill. She worked again in Winnipeg for various companies until she got married to Lennard Olson in 1969 and started a family. She had stayed at home and worked part time in the evenings until her sons were old enough to be alone by themselves. She then worked at various companies doing data entry until she received a position with the federal government in 1991. She worked for the federal government until her retirement in 2004.
Evelyn liked to be kept busy. She joined the good neighbour's active living centre in 2005 and enjoyed very much volunteering at their treasured cove second hand store as well as volunteering her time for various activities with the centre. She also started a coffee club and social club at the Pine Ridge Trailer Court where she lived and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Following the passing of her husband (2004) and eldest son (2007), she met Garry. Garry was a good companion for Evelyn and she enjoyed spending the time with him along with other family and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed baking and canning. She enjoyed being with people, hosting dinners and was always baking up a storm in the kitchen. She loved having a garden and being able to pass on the vegetables to her friends. She enjoyed having her grandsons over and did so whenever she was able to for overnight stays. The celebration dinners she always hosted gave her joy in seeing others enjoy her cooking. As quoted by a close friend, "you are not done eating until she was sure you had enough" says it all.
The family gratefully thanks the staff in the Medicine 2 Ward at the Selkirk Hospital for the care they provided. My Mom continually said, "the staff is wonderful".
A funeral service will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home located at 4477 Main St., West St. Paul, MB on Friday, August 9 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ALS Society of Manitoba or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET, 204-338-7111. Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolences at https://www.arbormemorial.ca/en/gleneden

  • We wish to pass on our very sincere condolences to Darcy and family. We are very sadden to see Evelyn's picture in this section of the paper. Darcy, your Mom, Dad, your brother and you were an integral part of our life while neighbours on Melbourne Avenue. We were always greeted with a smile. It was a 'gentle chapter' in our life knowing that we had such a lovely, caring family across the street and available whenever needed...whether for a coffee break, a friendly chat, playtimes for our kids, child sitting, or whatever. We were also fortunate to have Harasymchuk's and Persowich's as neighbours and wish to pass on our condolences to them as well. Peace be with you all, Hugs, Dave & Reena - Posted by: Reena & Dave Normandale (Neighbours from Melbourne Ave.) on: Aug 04, 2019
