OLGA NAHIRNIAK
November 13, 1924 - August 4, 2019
Olga is predeceased by her beloved husband Mervin (1991) and sister Lily (2011). She is survived by her sisters, Nadia (Ben) Hanuschak and Victoria (Vicky) Johnston, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She taught school for 40 years mostly in Winnipeg but she did have two years in Soest, Germany with the Department of National Defence teaching children of military families. She is a member of The Unitarian Universalist Church, Humanists of Manitoba, Manitoba NDP and Winnipeg Humane Society.
She had a zest for life: mushroom picking, enjoying music, taking pictures (won first prize with her group), dancing, yoga and was an avid bridge player.
She loved animals: cats and dogs were never passed up without patting them. Ziggy, her last cat's ashes, are with her in the casket.
We wish to thank the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made to The First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent, Winnipeg, MB R3M 0A7, or charity of one's choice.

First of all, condolences to Olga's family. I worked with Olga at Lord Nelson School in Winnipeg in the late 60's and we became very good friends. We enjoyed car trips, enjoying fun nights at the pubs and general great times. One of my fondest memories is pushing Olga down Portage Avenue in a shopping cart in front of The Bay. She loved to laugh and have a good time (obviously). She married one of my mother's cousins (Mervin) and I remember them both visiting our family in Rossburn. They made a very nice couple. I cherish the memory I have of Olga..she was a wonderful friend. Rest in peace dear friend. Love, Sonia (Silewich) Opleta - Posted by: SoniaSilewich Opleta (friend) on: Oct 09, 2019

Our deepest sympathies to the Olga Nahirniak family. The year that Olga turned 80, she joined a canoe dinner that we hosted at Caddy Lake. She wanted an adventure and, true to her word, she shared a canoe with us, paddled through the Caddy Lake tunnel and, with a little assistance, climbed up to the firepit site. We had a delightful dinner with her and shared a fire with music entertainment back on shore that evening. What a great role model for engaging with life at all its stages and we will carry with us the great image of her paddling [or making a solid attempt] for the first time at 80. Peace & many happy memories to all of you. Joan Carolyn & Ken Nicholson - Posted by: Joan Carolyn (Church Friend) on: Aug 09, 2019
