ROY LAWRENCE MCGAW, SR.
Dad will be reunited with the love of his life, Doreen, who predeceased him (March 9, 2010); as well as his son, Lindsay (May 9, 2019); parents, James and Mary McGaw and sister, Dorothy Fairley. Left sadly to mourn are his daughters, Tannis Asselin (Paul), Kathleen Cook and her children, Trevor (Amanda) and Rebecca Cook, Colleen Blacker (Bob); son Larry (Lorraine) and their children, Lauren (Josh) and Ryan McGaw; and daughter-in-law Danielle and her children, Jasmine (daughter Kyra) and Nate. A caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and provider, Dad's life was truly enriched by his loving grandchildren.
Born May 24, 1929, Roy attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate before embarking on a career in telecommunications with Manitoba Telephone System, A.E.I. Telecommunications, and Microtel. It was at MTS that Dad met Mom, and shortly after their engagement she even revealed her true age. Mom was a beauty, so he honoured his commitment through many moves, relocations, travels and adventures for the next 55 years. Highlights included a business trip to Japan with a stopover in Hawaii in 1976, as well as an extended, post-retirement stay in Padre Island in the 1980s. Dad had a love of sports, reading, and cars, particularly his Lincoln. His kind and gentle nature extended to the natural world; he loved birds, cardinals in particular, and greatly loved cats, his last, Lucky, being the most precious of all.
Dad had a quiet spirituality that comforted him in his final days, and will be celebrated in a service at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Dr. Michael Wilson.
The family wishes to thank the fourth-floor staff at St. Boniface Hospital, as well as those at Misericordia Interim Care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dad's name may be made to Siloam Mission, 300 Princess St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 1M3.
May the road rise to meet you, and the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm on your face and the rains fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again may God hold you gently in the palm of his hand.

Dear Tannis and Larry, your Dad was such sweet and gentle man. So soft spoken and kind. Al and I along with Natalie and Lisa will miss his spirit at all our family gatherings, especially Christmas and of course the Grey Cup party. Take care we are thinking of you.
