Peacefully, with family by her side, Jeannine Champagne (née Lavoie) passed away at St. Boniface Hospital, on August 3, 2019, at the age of 91.
Jeannine was predeceased by her beloved husband, Germain. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her four children, Andrée (René Beaudry), Robert (Suzanne Bohémier), Lise (Jean-Pierre Privé) and Francine, her 10 grandchildren, Michèle (Erik Thorlakson), Rémi, Nicole (Jon Knauf), Stéphanie (Nick Nault), Colin (Hannah McMeikin), Joël (Sylvie Goguen), Riel, Dominique (Eric Boulay), Zoé and Emilie, and her 11 great-grandchildren, Olivier, Chloé, Téo, Florence, Yannick, Luka, Mila, Eloïse, Ariel, Mika and Zoé. Jeannine will also be remembered by her brother Michel Lavoie (Patricia Barter), many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jeannine was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, on May 10, 1928, daughter of Orize Dégagné and Paul Lavoie. Her parents always instilled practical moral values and a deep faith in God. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Gilles, René, André and Charles, and sisters, Alyette and Gisèle.
As a young girl, Jeannine loved spending time in Keewatin with her grandmother and relatives, and often reminisced about this. She had great memories of her Girl Guide days during which she developed many friendships. She received a sound education at Académie Saint-Joseph, thanks to the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. Jeannine's excellent abilities in French and English grammar, as well as her strong organizational skills, led her to numerous positions as Administrative Assistant at CKSB (where she met her prince charming, Germain), Imperial Oil and Procure I.B.A. They worked alongside each other at I.B.A. for 20 years.
Jeannine and Germain truly cherished the moments they spent together. Their long adventure included memorable annual family road trips across Canada and the United States with their trailer in tow.
Jeannine was a pure and courageous woman who was willing to take life by the reins and continued living to the fullest. Until the very end, she was residing in her own home and very much enjoyed eating out with family, going for long drives around the city and surrounding countryside, shopping, reading, and listening to music.
Of very strong faith, Jeannine prayed the rosary and had the intentions of others at heart.
She was loved by everyone around her, and they knew that they could count on her honesty and moral support. She often kept a sense of humour and a smile on her face, even in rough times.
A huge thank you to Jeannine's amazing neighbours who stood by her, always ready to lend a hand. We would also like to thank the ER staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for their compassion and dedication during her final hours. We are grateful for the wonderful home care workers who came to her aide in the last few years.
The funeral mass will be held at St. Eugene Parish, 1009 St. Mary's Road, on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.

"Entrust the past to God's mercy, the present to His love, the future to His providence."
