Paula was a loving wife to Jakob (deceased 1981). Survived by her son, Jacob (Margaret) and grandsons, Jonathan (Valerie), Michael and Robert (Alecia), and by Jonathan's children, Alex, Jacob and William.
Paula was born October 18, 1920 on a farm near Poltava, Ukraine. Paula relocated several times due to collectivization, unrest and the Second World War. Paula met and married Jakob Loewen during the war years. They were sponsored to Canada in 1948. As a young mother, she returned to school and became a teacher in Winnipeg. After retirement, she moved to Mississauga to live near her son and grandchildren. She was active in the Mennonite Church in Winnipeg and in Mississauga. Paula was fiercely proud of being the first female Physics teacher in Manitoba. She was an avid gardener until 97 and valued her independence always.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter 'Neweduk-Erin Mills' Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. W., Mississauga, Ontario (east of Erin Mills Parkway), on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)
I have fond memories of Paula. I got to know her at Mississauga Mennonite Fellowship. She was always very supportive of me in my parenting challenges. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Ingrid Peters-Fransen (Friend) on: Aug 14, 2019
'Mrs. Loewen', as she was known, was a role model for many of the high school girls in her Physics classes. By her own example, she encouraged excellence, especially with those supplemental sessions she would hold before school officially began for the day. My friends and I faithfully attended and appreciated them. She was and will be long remembered for her positive influence and generous personality; I'm sorry for the Loewen family's loss. - Posted by: Lydia Emanuel (Former student) on: Aug 14, 2019
Condolences on the loss of your beloved mother. In addition to being a teacher she also looked after the plants located at the corner of the hall near her classroom. She always said "good morning" or "good afternoon" to students as she passed them in the hall. - Posted by: Janice Clarke (Former student (DMCI, 1975-1981)) on: Aug 14, 2019
Lovely lady and a great teacher. Both Randy and I had her for physics. Our condolences to Ron and family. - Posted by: Jacquie Sarna (nee Irwin) (Student) on: Aug 13, 2019
Very pleasant, funny, good-hearted lady. I think she only gave me passing grades in Physics because my sister was such a good student and one of her favorites. - Posted by: Craig Pospishell (Student) on: Aug 13, 2019
Loved Mrs. Loewen as my Physics teacher at Daniel McIntyre! She certainly knew her stuff and was always so cheerful. I was just looking at an old Daniel Mac yearbook yesterday, and saw her picture wondering what happened to her. Now I know. What a wonderful long and full life she had! Condolences to her family. - Posted by: June Pospishell (former student from Daniel McIntyre) on: Aug 13, 2019
