LYNNE (KAREN) VROOMAN
(You may remember her as LYNNE FERRIS)
April 29, 1955 - August 5, 2019
Born to parents, Murray and Joy Vrooman, Lynne and her sister Beth (Kippen, brother-in-law Terry and nephew Chris, wife Michelle and daughter Kendall) grew up on the family farm in Belmont, Manitoba. Following that, as an adult, Lynne spent 39 years working at the Health Sciences Centre, retiring in 2013.
Lynne loved to have fun, especially with her girlfriends, many of whom she stayed close with for decades.
The greatest joy and pride in Lynne's life was her daughter Jennifer (Ward, son-in-law Devon). Single parent and only child: they lived through Jennifer's youth together as a team. The woman that Jennifer has become - loving mom, thoughtful wife, respected nurse - is Lynne's legacy.
In 1997, Lynne met Vernon De Pape, a member of her curling league. They would spend 21 years together as partners and kindred spirits, a pair who enjoyed nothing more than passing time together. Along with Jennifer and Vernon's son Christian (De Pape, son-in-law Chad MacRae), they spent many happy times on the porch of their beloved cottage in Belair, Manitoba.
One of Lynne's wishes in life was to be a grandmother, a desire granted in 2016 with the birth of her grandson Aiden (Ward). She hoped to be a wonderful grandmother like her own had been, and Lynne achieved that in spades. Aiden loved his Grandma "Vroom-vroom," and would often say, "My just love you, Grandma!"
Not long after her cancer diagnosis, Lynne was admitted to palliative care at St. Boniface Hospital. The compassion she received from the staff was remarkable. For that, her family is grateful.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Fort Gibraltar, 866 rue Saint Joseph, on Monday, August 19 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and dress casual - feel free to wear jeans. Following brief words from family and friends, we'll enjoy a light lunch, a bonfire and memories of Lynne.
