EVEREST (EV) MELVIN GANDIER

It is with great sadness that the family of Everest (Ev) Gandier announces his passing, on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.
Born in 1938, Ev was predeceased by his mother, Blanche; father, Horace, and his sister, Revy. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Alexandra (Sandy) (nee Kennedy); five children, Sheila, Lisa (Tim), Andrew (Stacey), Bruce (Susan) and Colin (Kim); grandchildren, Evan, Aaron, Jordan, Joshua, Noah, Alex, Lou, Liam and Kennedy; his brother, Bruce, and sister, Martha.
Born in Meaford, Ontario, Ev was raised on an apple orchard on the beautiful Georgian Bay. Here, his love for the outdoors was born. Ev attended Meaford District High School and the University of Manitoba. He enjoyed many years in the floor covering business and worked at the Winnipeg Remand Centre as a Correctional Officer until his retirement.
Ev was a strong but quiet man with a gentle, calming personality. An avid reader, he was an authority on history, the military, and aviation. He took a special interest in sharing his knowledge and speaking French with his children and grandchildren. Ev was also a great storyteller and people loved to listen to his many tales of adventure and of the dreams he had for his future.
Never one to sit for long, Ev proved how hard work and perseverance made those dreams of his come true. He could fix or build anything, and especially loved working on projects at the family lake property where he built two cottages over four decades. It was at the cottage that Ev was happiest and he welcomed many friends and family to celebrate nature.
Ev loved life and fought valiantly through many illnesses to live his life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the entire TAVI team at St. Boniface Hospital, the dialysis team at Health Sciences Centre and to the staff at Handi-Transit and St. James Home Care for taking such good care of Ev. We wish to extend a special thank you to Dr. Rakesh Arora for his care and attention to Ev over the last year.
There will be a Celebration of Life with family and close friends at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your charity of choice.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Very, very belated condolences. Just found out by accident. RIP - Posted by: Brian Sinclair (Friend) on: Jul 22, 2021

  • I knew Ev who was a family friend to my parents Margaret and Bill Brace. I babysat the children when I was a teen and Ev was a wonderful father to his children and calm always. When we had our son Ryan Ev and Sandi were his godparents and Ryan carries Ev’s name Everest. We have not seen them for years but we do remember Ev with fond memories. Our condolences go out to Sandi, Sheila, Lisa, Andrew, Bruce and Colin.
