OLIVIA JOAN COONTZ
(nee LUCKIW)
Olivia was predeceased by her husband Lyle in 2013; her sister Adlynne in 2005; and her parents, Nick and Annie Luckiw in 1978.
She is survived by her four children and their families, Blair and Dolly Coontz (Shelby (Mac) and Cash); Kevin and Tracy Coontz (Aaron (Karen), Bailey (Josh) [Isabelle], Jeremy (Dominique), Tyler (Melanie)); Toni-Ann and Phillip Dobson (Quin); April and Warren Borgford (Austin and Chase); her nephew Ken Kolton (Darlene) and numerous relatives and friends.
Olivia was born on September 28, 1931 in Winnipeg. She grew up and attended school in the North End. After graduation she worked for the Rural Municipality of East Kildonan before she got a job at National Cash Register in 1954. This is where she met Lyle, the love of her life and they were married on September 10, 1955. After their children came along, Olivia stayed at home working part time and volunteering at various positions. She re-entered the work force when the kids were older and obtained a job at Health and Welfare Canada, where she worked for 15 years before retiring in 1993.
Mom was the most kind, strong, witty and loving person. Her family was her one and only priority and making sure everyone had enough to eat. We were blessed to have her in our lives and she will always be in our hearts. Say "Hi" to Dad for us.
The family would like to thank the nurses and home care for the wonderful care they gave to Mom over the years.
A celebration of Olivia's life will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, if so desired, a donation to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
To My Family and Friends:
Remember me with smiles and gladness,
for that is how I will remember you.
If you must remember me with tears
and sadness, then don't remember me at all.
Love,
Liv, Mom, Grandma and Chocha

Auntie Liv story. My family lives on the west coast and years ago one of the Coontz kids was to be married and we were invited and I declined to attend, but in true obnoxious Neil fashion changed my mind and showed up on her doorstep 2:00 pm the day before the wedding 'surprise' really who does that. Auntie Liv had a thousand things on her mind and a hundred things to do but greeted me with her beautiful smile and laugh. And yes made sure I was fed. Blair, Kevin, Toni-Ann, April, Ken hugs to you all. - Posted by: Neil Green (Nephew) on: Aug 19, 2019

I'm so sorry to hear of Olivia's passing. I have so many good memories of times spent with the family and she was always at the centre with her kindness, gentle humour, and insistence that everybody eat. Family was very important to her and brought her great joy. May the closeness you all share help with your grief at this difficult time. Blessings. - Posted by: Bev Dueck (Friend) on: Aug 17, 2019

My sincere condolences to the entire Coontz family but especially to April, Warren, Austin and Chase. Growing up in East Kildonan, all of our families seemed to be intertwined and even though it has been years since your Mom and Dad had moved from the house on Hazeldell, whenever I would run into them I was always greeted with a welcoming smile and genuine interest in what I was up to and how my parents were doing! Mrs. Coontz (Olivia) was an amazing Mom! Hang on to your precious memories! - Posted by: Kelly Verot (Filbert) (Friend and neighbour) on: Aug 17, 2019
