CLARENCE JOHNSON
August 28, 1927 - August 13, 2019
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Elsie, sons, Michael and David (Debbie), grandson Brandon "Clarence", granddaughter Talena, sister Pearl Deley, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family all of whom he was very fond. He was predeceased by parents, Axel and Olof, sisters, Eileen, Ruby, and brother Harold.
Clarence was born in a farmhouse just outside of Lundar, Manitoba, the community where he lived his entire life. In partnership with his brother Harry, he had a road construction company C & H Johnson Construction, until selling the business in 1977. In his semi-retired years he spent time working for Melnychuk Construction (Arborg), driving a school bus, and serving the community of Lundar as a town councillor.
In later years Clarence took up many activities to fill his time including woodworking, rug hooking (of all things), walking many miles around town, and of course spending time in the local coffee shop to catch up on the gossip. In his 70s, he even became an avid golfer and especially enjoyed taking his grandson out on the course.
When trying to think how to best describe Dad the words "kind" and "decent" immediately come to mind. Most people would remember him as somebody who did not talk a lot, but was very good natured. He was always willing to help out, worked hard, rarely complained about anything, and not much ever ruffled his feathers.
The last few years have been difficult as Dad's health has declined. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to all the staff at the Lundar Personal Care Home for everything they have done to make sure he was comfortable.
Dad we are so sorry to see you go, but you have earned your rest! Those of us left behind will work hard to live up to the example you have set for us, knowing you are watching over with pride.
In accordance with Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place. On Friday, August 23 a private family graveside memorial will be held at Lundar Municipal Cemetery officiated by Cindy Thorkelson. Following the interment, everyone is welcome to join us for coffee and fellowship at the Lundar Legion Hall at 2:30 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers are Gerald Sigurdson, Lenny Johnson, Randy Gudmundson and Laurie Gudmundson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lundar Personal Care Home Guild, Attention Judy Gleich, Box 60, Lundar, Manitoba R0C 1Y0.
