SHELDON MERTON IRVINE
1940 - 2019

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sheldon Irvine of Blairmore, Alberta on August 6, 2019, at the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre, at the age of 79 years.
"Shel" was born on June 1, 1940 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to proud parents, Merton and Mabel Irvine and was raised on a farm in the Marais district near Emerson, Manitoba. In 1963, he moved to Alberta and worked on a farm in Taber until he was hired by MacGregors Telephone & Power. He married the love of his life, Doris, on August 23, 1968 and they settled in Calgary. He learned the painting trade and started his own company in 1981, operating it until his well deserved retirement in 2000. Shel and Doris decided to retire to the Crowsnest Pass and he designed his own home and did most of the finishing work adding his own unique touch. He loved travelling throughout Canada and the United States with his RV. He was very talented with woodwork and built furniture, elaborate birdhouses and stained glass work of which he gave to his friends and family as gifts. He was known for his story telling and he had the gift of being able to talk to anyone. Shel will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Doris Irvine; his brother, Bruce (June) Irvine of Okotoks, AB; his nephew, Kent (Robyn) Irvine; his niece, Lisa (Dan) Mueller; and the many friends that he made throughout his life.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mabel and Merton Irvine and his son, Boyd Irvine, in December 1988.
With respect for the family's wishes, there will be no funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be gratefully accepted by the Heart & Stroke Foundation, P.O. Box 2211, Lethbridge, AB T1J 4K7.
