Irvin Garfinkel, born May 23, 1925 in Winnipeg, passed away peacefully at the Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence on August 16, 2019.
He was predeceased by his wife Shirley, and parents, Nathan and Rose. He is survived by his daughter Reesa (Jerry); son Harvey (Lee); grandchildren, Elke (Noah), Ilana, Alex, Ava and Max; great-grandchild Harley, and sister Rita.
Irvin was a humble man who was well liked and respected by business associates, and loved by family and friends. He had a special place in his heart for his many nieces and nephews. Irvin was especially good with children. Upon his retirement from his meat business, OK Packers, Irvin devoted himself to his wife of 70 years and to family. He leaves behind a legacy of strong values and commitment to his traditions and heritage.
Services were held on August 18, 2019 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Pallbearers were Alex and Max Garfinkel, Hart Stitz, Ian Kasloff, Martin Vine and Mark Streifler. Honorary pallbearers included Jerry Webb, Jerry Niznick, Ted Kasloff and Adam Kasloff.
