1928 - 2019

After 91 years of living a full life with much happiness, and coping with some of life's challenges, Ruth Jeffers (Thorkelson) passed on August 13, 2019 at Tudor House, in Selkirk, Manitoba. Her family was at her side during her final days, as she rested comfortably.
Ruth was predeceased by husbands, Thomas Clarke (1965) and Bud Jeffers (1990); her parents, Bjorn and Juliette; her brother Edwin (Doris); and brothers-in-law, Heidi Erickson (Luella) and Hermas Richaud (Evelyn).
She is survived by her sisters, Luella Erickson, Evelyn Richaud and Doreen Duncan (Raymond), and sister-in-law Doris Thorkelson; children, Leona Fitzpatrick (David); Lorne Clarke (Karen) and Bradley Clarke (Juanita Shabaga); grandchildren, Kim MacRae (Jason), Michael Fitzpatrick (Maggie), Kristin Clarke (Mike Therrien), Ashley Clarke (Ryan Howanyk), Crissy Clarke (Chris Stoodley) and Brandon Clarke; 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ruth was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, March 31, 1928. She first lived in Deerhorn on her parents' farm. Following Normal School, she taught at Swan Creek and Eastland schools. During her marriage to Thomas Clarke, she farmed in Eriksdale, until Tom's untimely death. At that time, Ruth had the courage to move, with her children and start a new life in Winnipeg, where she studied to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.
During her nursing career and retirement, she and husband, Bud Jeffers, resided in Selkirk, where they enjoyed many happy times during backyard BBQs, camping trips, and holidaying with grandchildren, relatives and friends. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, and other relatives and friends will miss her.
She was a remarkable woman who lived a remarkable life, who had an exceptional sense of humour and passion for family, and friends. During the past two years, this was evident with the staff and residents of St. Benedict's Place and Tudor House.
At Ruth's request there will be no formal service. A family gathering will be held at Eriksdale Cemetery, her final resting place.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My deepest condolences to Lorne, Karen & family. Lorne, I met your mom through my nursing career & your mom was a lovely lady. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time ❤️🙏😢 - Posted by: Lee Bell (Friend ) on: Sep 13, 2019

  • Ruth was a person once you met, you loved her. She was a friend and "aunt" to many who were not really related. I was fortunate enough to be a "niece" by marriage, she was our neighbor, our bonfire buddy. We shared many meals, and many cocktails together. Ruth had an amazing sense of humor and loved everyone, and had an endless number of friends who also loved her. She was truly one of a kind and touched many lives. She will be missed but never forgotten. Darren & Suzanne Feyereisen - Posted by: Suzanne Feyereisen (friend, niece by marriage) on: Aug 24, 2019
