It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Violet (Me-Me) Rodgers Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at the age of 99 years.
She has now joined her parents, Adora and Joseph, brothers, Ulric and Austin, sister Gladys, and son Dale. Left to cherish her memory are her brother Rupert Evans, daughters, Urlene and Nadine, grandchildren, Ryan (Nailini), Tessia, Keoné, Violet and Neveaha, as well as many beloved friends and extended family.
Violet, fondly known as Me-Me, was born in Nevis, West Indies and immigrated to Antigua where she obtained her nursing degree. She practiced her profession in Antigua before travelling to Trinidad to expand her nursing career. She eventually moved to Winnipeg, MB with her son Dale just in time to experience one of the worst blizzards in Manitoba history which was on her birthday.
Everyone who knew Violet knew of her intense love for children and she eventually moved on to become the Supervisor of the Children's Day Hospital at Mount Carmel Clinic for over 20 years until her retirement. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and her many cherished friends.
Violet was a women of strong faith and was a member and elder of St. John's Presbyterian Church for many years.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved by all those who have had the privilege to have known her.
The family would like to thank the home care staff, as well as the staff on the 3rd floor of Seven Oaks Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion shown to our mother and grandmother Me-Me.
Celebration of Life to be held on Wednesday, August 28 at 11:00 a.m., at St. John's Presbyterian Church, 251 Bannerman Ave.

  • We have known Me-Me for over 40 years, she was a very loving, caring and pleasant person. We will miss her, she will be with us in spirit. Our sincerest condolences to Urlene, Nadine and all the family, our prayers and thought are with you, may God continue to comfort and strengthen all of you at this time. - Posted by: Eddy & Kathy Edwards (Family Friend) on: Aug 27, 2019

  • Aunty Vi and my mother, Joyce Smith (nee Kewley) met through my mother's cousin Aunty Wilma of Trinidad and Tobago many years ago. They are now both in heaven where they will talk about the old days. When these three ladies got together "jokes for so", I laughed so hard I would roll of one of Aunty Vi's chairs. Aunty was a genuine caregiver, loved her family and anyone who came near her, she made you part of her life and for that I will always thank and remember her for. She certainly showed me how to be a strong woman, not by talking about it, but by living it. Bless you Aunty Vi. - Posted by: Yvette Barrett-Roberts and Joyce Smith (Family Friends) on: Aug 27, 2019

  • Mrs. Rodgers was my neighbor on Atlantic Ave. I remember her making me some kind of cookies with fresh coconut in it, she said it was something her mother made her growing up and it was delicious. God now has one of the most loved Angels by his side. My thoughts and prayers to all the family and friends of MeMe Rodgers. She will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Diane Haysom(Danylyshen) (Neighbor) on: Aug 26, 2019

  • What a beautiful picture of MeMe that was chosen. I will always cherish her loving ways and kindness. What a wonderful, blessed life MeMe had. My last conversation with her was on her 99th birthday and she kept telling me how blessed she was. • Nadine and I are best friends since kindergarten. Meme has been part of my life since I was 6 yrs old. She was one of the kindest and most loving woman that I had the joy of having in my life. I was fortunate that the Lord let me see her day before she passed away. Through time and space she never forgot who I was. Love you Auntie Meme till we see each other again. - Posted by: Susanna (Close friend) on: Aug 24, 2019
